bk_market October 26, 2007 October 26, 2007 I just order 4x lyretail anthias and they all came in as male with deep pink to red color and long top fin. Not even close to a picture of what a female anthias look like. Are they gonna turn back to female or am I screw?

Not even close to a picture of what a female anthias look like. Are they gonna turn back to female or am I screw? Are they fighting?? I bought three females, one turned male, one died... So I have two. The male lyretail anthia is the most aggressive 'boss' fish in my tank. bob
bk_market October 26, 2007 Author October 26, 2007 I asked them to give me 3x female and 1x male or at least worst they can give me all 4 female and they will change by themselve. Now I got my order and all 4 male. They are fighting a little bit. I know they change from female to male but do they change from male to female???

Usually you DO get all females. How they ended up with all males, I can't even guess. Maybe they thought those WERE the females! Well-known fish supplier? bob
bk_market October 27, 2007 Author October 27, 2007 i got them from NYaquatic. Im emailing Michael the owner to settle it and see what happen. I'll keep u guys update.
jamal October 27, 2007 October 27, 2007 if you have the means seperate them as they will kill each other until one remains. i got all females from brk and as they were deciding who would rule 2 or 3 were eliminated so if that happens with females good luck
bk_market October 27, 2007 Author October 27, 2007 so that mean that it's not okay to get all male right? All female will work but not all male.
jamal October 27, 2007 October 27, 2007 you got it. its actually better to start with all female rather than getteing a male with a certain number of females. if there is a female in the shipment that wants to get snappy you will have some dead fish to clean up
jamesbuf October 27, 2007 October 27, 2007 I'd be interested in buying one from you if you can get them to eat. I bought 6 lyretails from nyaquatic last year for my 180, and couldn't get any of them to eat. Not even cyclopeeze or garlic soaked mysis. Unfortunately all 6 died. The 2 false percs and Eibli angel survived and thrived, but no luck with the anthias. He claimed they were eating before he shipped them. I also asked for 5 females and one male. At least he sent me all females. I'd say you're screwed for sure with having all males. They will definitely kill each other if you try to keep them all.

I purchased three from BRK - they not only ate; they were and the two remaining ones still are the biggest pigs in the tank. I can't imagine a lyretail anthia not eating. But I agree - a bunch of males are very unlikely to get along. bob
bk_market October 27, 2007 Author October 27, 2007 they r eating frozen mysis within 5 mins of realsing into my tank.
bk_market October 27, 2007 Author October 27, 2007 (edited) I tried to catch the anthias today and it just impossible for me they hide inside the rock work. From what I oberseve, the anthias are eating but each one stay at a different place in the tank. I figure they are all male so they dont school obviously. Now the problem is that Michael from nyaquatic will send me 3x female replacement this coming week. Should I just release them inside the tank or I have to wait until the other 3 males die first? Please advise. Thanx Edited October 27, 2007 by bk_market
jamesbuf October 27, 2007 October 27, 2007 have to wait until the other 3 males die first? you're kidding right?
davelin315 October 28, 2007 October 28, 2007 If you keep them separate you'll just end up with another male. I would catch the ones you don't want and get rid of them. You're really rushing these anthias and they are delicate fish with high demands, the stress of having 5 males together and then adding another 3 females will create a world of pain for your tank.
jamesbuf October 28, 2007 October 28, 2007 So what have you decided to do with the anthias? Are you really just going to let them kill each other?
bk_market October 29, 2007 Author October 29, 2007 I gave up catching them so im just gonna let them deal with each other. To my suprise though they are nice to each other showing 0 aggression no problem so far.

So what ever happened with the anthias? 4 male anthias in a 90gal, I find it hard to believe they aren't ripping each other apart.
