ReeferMan August 13, 2007 August 13, 2007 Curious to how many people actually have a Barebottom tank. If you do please let me know what your maintanance schedule includes. I recently went BB and have read so much but would like to see what people on WAMAS do. *Chip- you dont have a BB tank so i dont want you making smart comments*

Khanh, Curious to how many people actually have a Barebottom tank. If you do please let me know what your maintanance schedule includes. treesprite August 13, 2007 August 13, 2007 well, it WILL have a sandbed... right now there's some stuff that sort of blows around So I see you did not include crushed coral on that list... maybe not seeing it will encourage users to get rid of it.
Guest NSC August 13, 2007 August 13, 2007 Currently have a sandbed and am working through whether or not going barebottom. There are pros and cons to each; BB=more flow possibilities so more SPS also easier to clean, but do I want to not keep softies/LPS by going tsunami??? Each has its limitations with corals and livestock, I suppose you just need to know what you really want to keep. The internal debate rages on...
ReeferMan August 14, 2007 Author August 14, 2007 i think most softies and LPS will be ok in high flow. The concept of BB is just a different approach than the sand bed. This includes siphoning out gunk weekly, running a large skimmer and UV. Increase the flow to keep stuff from settling so the skimmer can remove it. So far i like it but my rocks are shedding so there is alot of stuff on the bottom of the tank that settles.
jamal August 15, 2007 August 15, 2007 i used to be really hardcore on sandbeds but now thati have decided to upgrade in a while and turn my 180 to all sps i am starting to see the appeal of bb tanks and will prolly go that way for the sps tank.
Donny August 15, 2007 August 15, 2007 my 125 is bb, weekly maintenance includes.... siphoning all the snail poop and ditritus out aswell as shedding from rocks 20% biweekly water change even though this past month i didnt do one at all and i didnt see a rise in anything. my return is a mag 12 and i run 1 vortech at full blast (3000gph) my skimmer is a kent skimmer skimming really really wet...(1g a day of skimmate.)
ReeferMan August 15, 2007 Author August 15, 2007 People that have BB tanks, what do you use as a cleanup crew?
