flowerseller March 10, 2007 March 10, 2007 i just recently got a clam in a group buy with a missing foot. do you gusy think i should try and return it or will it be ok? It should be fine, but, it might move about the tank with a slight limp. Many clams do not attach themselves.
TROLL March 10, 2007 March 10, 2007 He'll be ok My clams actually don't use their foot that much- they just blow to get around.

I was kidding about the limp. The foot is only used for attachment if desired by the clam. It's not a "walking foot" and as Troll mentioned, they propel about by hydrolics.
jamal March 10, 2007 Author March 10, 2007 yea i know i got squirted by his "hydraulics" while placing him in the tank. thanks guys i will place him in the rocks next week

dzekunoi March 11, 2007 March 11, 2007 If it just does not have "attaching strings" it's OK. If you can see gills from underside of the clam - sort of see through - according to Barry it's a goaner. 2 of my 4 clams do not attach themselves, but if you turn them upside-down you can see a retracted foot.
