madmax7774 March 4, 2007 March 4, 2007 Does anyone know a good way to coax a Fire shrimp to be a little more social? I really like the way they look, and I added one, but all he does is hide in the rear behind all the rocks where I can't see him. :(
dhoch March 4, 2007 March 4, 2007 That's what they do Two ways... one feed him two get him a mate... Neither is going to get them out a lot... Dave
Grav March 4, 2007 March 4, 2007 Yes they do. Time helps, also more shrimp... toss in a cleaner or two and wathing them not get eaten out in the open will help. Mostly just lots of time.
extreme_tooth_decay March 4, 2007 March 4, 2007 I have 2 cleaners who are often out, and one fire shrimp who hasn't come out in about 2 years for more than 10 seconds. tim
trble81 March 4, 2007 March 4, 2007 We just added a peppermint shrimp to our tank (dang aptasia!). We saw him yesterday as he crawled upside-down under our live rock but haven't seen him since. I can't find our flashlight to go "searching" in the shadows for him so I have no clue where he would be. Other than looking for shrimp pieces on the sand, is there any other way to know if he's still around. I didn't mean to hijack the thread or go a little off topic but I figured that the behavior might be similar and I didn't want to seem like the person who will post stuff without reading to see if answers can be readily available

I know that mine came from someone else's tank (returned to store when owner had to move out of town). From day one - if I put my hand in the tank, he is all over me (read separate post about him getting his claws super-glued together). Try putting a little bit of mysis shrimp in the tank to get his attention - and then hand-feeding him more. Mine stops eating when I stop providing - I think he would eat until his tail fell off. But if he does get real friendly - be careful with super-glue! bob
