I'm looking into this "Aquarium Nazi" for my next aquarium.  Anyone buy from these folks?  Opinions please.  I've heard good and bad; mostly good.  He reminds me of the "Soup Nazi"; don't ask too many questions or "No Aquarium for you!"

I tries to talk to Brad about his 90 but he disappeared into "diaperland."

Rik Leishmen has a post out now about his 240g tank and Doug Debartco just purchased one in the last week

My tank is over 15 months old and running fine. Knock on wood.

I have the glass bracing on the top, reef ready with the drains , holes

drilled.

I asked them to watch out on smearing silicone on the front glass.

Once i got the tank, i did some minor clean up on the silicone and

re-applied a bead on the inside seams just to be on the cautious side.

overall Darn heavy. Tom , the owner never offered Starphire glass then.

Now he seems to offer it.

Overall, good value for money .

John - va_reefman has a large tank/stand/hood from him.

Mixed personal reviews:

2.5 years ago:  first 4 tanks, sloppy silicone jobs, 1 leaked on first test, I repaired it.

.25 years ago:  Friend and I bought 15+ tanks, silicone jobs better, some chipped in shipping, supposed to be "low e" glass on 3 sides, only on one, some cured improperly and hairline cracked after deliver while still curing(surprised me to and I would not believe it unless I saw it)

You get what you pay for and pay more after the fact in my experience.  Still cheaper, but factor PITA time into your costs.

My 240 from him was excellent condition and shape, he told me when he glued it and made a recommendation I wait for 10 more days. No problems and great guys to deal with, shippping was free to Manassass, I just had to get it there.
Shipping was free?  I have heard others (*i think) state there is a nominal fee of $40 or something along those lines to pickup in Manassas.  Not a bad deal even at $40, I'm just interested.

The scoop is order about a month ahead of your scheduled delivery date.

Call 10 days prior to the deliver and ensure that they really finished it.

Tell them not to bother glueing it in the truck and delivering it to you.

Larry, yes i had them install the overflow chambers as well and have the

holes drilled.

A couple of weeks prior to the delivery date, i called them requesting

additional holes for closed loop. They said the tank was done and they

normally drill the holes prior to siliconing.

Krish, OK

Did they drill them for you or stay with the "normally" line? gvl]]

quazi,

Drilling additional holes would have put 60 bucks in his pocket.

But if he cracks it, thats a collateral damage in terms of lost material/time.

So hence is smart to drill upfront to cut short the losses.

Hmmmmmmmmm Scott; bummer  ]]]sory

I've heard about the sloppy(extra) silicone but most seem to say they're strong.

I'm still thinking about buying from them.

BTW, I live in Manassas about 8 minutes from their usual drop-off point.

I would buy from him again, but have it constructed very early and inspect it mercilessly prior to allowing it on your vehicle.  30 days should suffice.

He drills and overflows just fine, but expect slight deviations from the measurements just to be safe on your end.

Good luck.

I just bought a large tank from them. I was nervous, but heard the joints were getting cleaner and more reliable. I llooked at a tank Aquariareview took. 240 gal, that the owner was giving away due to a leak. The owner said he thought he caused it pulling at the silicone.

Lower prices allowed me the low iron glass upgrades on a 275ish size tank (7'x3'x25") I saw Rik Leishman's and thought it was pretty nice. He also got low iron. Silicone was a little thick, but it was a 200+ gall tank.

I think it depends on the size. I gave up on a little quality of joints etc..(hopefully not the ability to hold water, just joints) to go up in size, holes and overflows, and clearer glass.  If I was going for a smaller tank, I probably would have gone with the oceanic or AGA. Still, even some of those have had problems. search on "algaeman"

By the way customer service from Tom is pretty "straightforward", though not difficult.  Email is probably best. (Tell him what you want, two steps left, receive order. Don't waste too much time worrying about any missing rolls Costanza).

The tank I got is pretty good. I already fixed the leak and it was just a small piece of silicone that had been pulled out of the seam.

The tank is a lot bigger than I expected. I knew as soon as I saw it... it's not a 240. I was going to put it in a school but it was too large, so I'm going  set it up and put my old 180 in the school.

Here is the size

Tank Length = 99 inches

Tank Width = 32 inches

Tank Height = 26 inches

Tank volume is calculated as

Tank Volume = 353 Gallons

I thought that thing was longer that 7'!!!!

I wish the wife would have trusted me with silicone. I tusted it, but that is not the opinion that matters. Oh well.

Yikes  ooh  you guys have big tanks!  I'm thinking about a 90+ near cube.  Thanks for the advice folks.

By the way is Ruh Roh from Astro the Dog "Ri Rorge"  :D
