StevenPro January 26, 2007 January 26, 2007 I wanted to let you all know that the next MACNA is going to be held in Pittsburgh. This should be a great opportunity to see some fabulous speakers, new and interesting products, rare and unusual livestock, and to hang out with fellow fish geeks from all over the world. Registration for the full show, including the Friday night reception and Saturday banquet, is only $100! But, this price will only last until the end of January, so register now to lock in this great price. We have a number of excellent speakers already confirmed and are aggressively working on others. Here is a current listing: Adam Blundell Eric Borneman Anthony Calfo Dr. Bruce Carlson Dr. Stan Dannemiller James Fatherree Lee Goldman Ron Hessing Kelly Jedlicki Dr. Sanjay Joshi Daniel Knop Sarah Lardizabal Dr. Frank Marini Dr. Catherine McFadden Mike Paletta Steven Pro Dr. Ron Shimek Dr. Rob Toonen See our website for more information, http://www.macna2007.com/
StevenPro February 1, 2007 Author February 1, 2007 I am pleased to announce that Dana Riddle has been added as a speaker.
StevenPro March 7, 2007 Author March 7, 2007 It looks like Gerald Allen is going to be our banquet speaker.
Guest Bemmer March 8, 2007 March 8, 2007 I am seriously thinking of going to the MACNA conference this fall. Anyone want to roadtrip and/or share a room (preferably a woman...I'm married) Is WAMAS getting a block of rooms at a hotel in the area? Also, for those that have been to the evening dinners (gala) are the worth the extra price of admission?
dbartco March 8, 2007 March 8, 2007 There's a bunch of us going. Even thinking of getting a "party bus" to get up up there. Best to get a reservation at the conf. hotel. It is a little outside Pitt, so not sure how many other hotels in the area. What, I'm married too? Oh well, I guess I am sharing with snore-boy again. That gator is loud after a few drinks!

Seriously, are there any woman going. It's one thing to be the token Asian on the trip but to be the token female would be just too much.
Leishman March 8, 2007 March 8, 2007 The price would be worth it just to see "Drunk Boy Byron" in action.
Gatortailale March 8, 2007 March 8, 2007 Hotel to stay at - well best to support the host club and stay at the hotel they have linked on their website. As I learned from when we hosted MACNA, we got all of the meeting & banquet space for free based on our guarantee that we would sell about 600 room nights during the conference. I guess Pitt club has similar deal so helping them fill the rooms can help their club. Reserve room now - your CC will not be charged and if you cancel like 48 hours before hand, they don't charge you. Other side note is to only reserve room if you are like 98% sure your going so host club has accurate estimate on rooms sold. Watching SOG & SLOG drink Saki Bombers ... was worth price of admisison for Kuhndog.

HowardofNOVA March 8, 2007 March 8, 2007 Born and raised in Washington PA, just outside of there! I'll be there! DANG, WHY ALWAYS IN SEPTEMBER!! Working (Gov't Reseller) -I'm sure somehow, will be up for at least one day anyway! Ok, Will probably work Fri/Sat am, then driveup for Sat night and Sunday.
dbartco March 8, 2007 March 8, 2007 For anyone that has not been to one - any newbs around here that realize that this "bug" is just not going to leave - really think about attending. You catch all the new equipment, can bug and critique the booth vendors on their stuff, and meet an enthusiastic, fun bunch of people. We even ended up playing poker with the reps from of Marine Depot, Icecap, and Euro-reef. Plus the speakers really hit all levels of experience. Bite the bullet now, and put it on your schedule. You'll probably make it up in free or reduced swag. I came back with free lugols, phos media, carbon, food, gift certs, test kits, books, and restocked my t-shirt collection. On the other hand I also dropped a few on cherry picked corals... And yes, sometimes you might even get a nickname if you have a few saki bombers!
Alok March 9, 2007 March 9, 2007 Is this of value to someone new to the hobby? If so, why? Thanks Alok
