Fishtail September 5, 2025 September 5, 2025 I am looking for someone with experience to move my Waterbox from my garage to my fish room in my basement. I'm hoping someone on the forum has used a local company. I'm not having much luck. It's a custom Waterbox 72x30x25 (235 gals) and weighs about 565 lbs. I have a few emails out to piano movers but I'm out of fish service places. No interest. The only moving company to call me back wants $1400! That's dollars, US. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks, JOe
ReeferMan September 5, 2025 September 5, 2025 I think the liability is just too great that its going to be too expensive.
epleeds September 5, 2025 September 5, 2025 I have helped moved several tanks over the years. You need a min of 6 guys just to lift the tank and set it on the stand. Not sure how far it is from your garage to the basement, but that adds to everything involved. is it brand new or has it been running in the garage? also what is the path from the garage to the basement? Are there stairs involved, hard corners with hand rails or can you go from the garage around the house to the basement door?
Fishtail September 6, 2025 Author September 6, 2025 Garage in front of the house to stairwell at back of the house. 4’ wide concrete stairwell. I’ll remove the rails. Its brand new in the crate. It took a-lot longer to build the fish room than i planned. Ran into some major plumbing issues with the house. The warranty is up in October and i haven't filled it yet. Ain’t that how it goes.
cpeguero September 6, 2025 September 6, 2025 Will the crate fit down the stairs to the basement? If so, I’d try to rig skids down the stairs, a winch up top, and use it to slowly slide the crate down to the basement. Going to take a bunch of folks to move into place. as you’ve discovered, no company wants to take on the risk. You have to take some time and plan it out. I had a similar experience getting my 260 gallon into the house. Similar empty weight. Check out my build thread for pics of the move….
Fishtail September 22, 2025 Author September 22, 2025 Movers came, needed 2 more guys then the insurance bailed on them. Now the sump is in the basement and the 600lb tank is in the garage.
Fishtail September 22, 2025 Author September 22, 2025 Cpeguero, how can i get to your build thread. Im new on this site. Cant figure it out. Been a rough morning.
DaJMasta September 22, 2025 September 22, 2025 Sounds like it, hope they can sort it out properly for you quickly. His thread was in the Dedicated Tank (build) Forum:

Hey, Sorry, missed the notification on this thread, but DaJMasta got you the link to my build thread. That's a major bummer that they bailed mid-job. Hope the build thread offers some useful info for you. I haven't updated it in a long time.... Also hope you are able to get the movers back to actually move the tank.
