brianisoutside July 18, 2024 July 18, 2024 I am looking at changing my lights out. I currently have two original Ai primes and 4, 2 foot t5 lights over top of a 36x22x18 tank ( think 65 galllon just shallower )I want something that doesn’t have fans to worry about. I hope to be upgrading to a longer tank in the next year too so something like Ai blades or bars isn’t really what I’m looking for. The tank is mostly LPS. There are a few easy sps that are high toward the top of the water. What recommendations do you have? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
FishingandReefing July 18, 2024 July 18, 2024 If you run them at lower intensity, mostly fan will stay off or on for a brief moment. Have fans on lights to me is a good thing. I personally like Radions and AI Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
DaJMasta July 18, 2024 July 18, 2024 If the 'worry about' is noise, you can also try cleaning the heatsink/fan/mesh covering it. A bit of airflow blockage will mean they need to run much faster to get the same amount of cooling, so a bit of regular maintenance does help (but IMO, they Prime HD 16s at least are kinda loud.)
howaboutme July 18, 2024 July 18, 2024 I open up my primes every so often and clean them out. After that, as good as new. If your fans are actually loud even after cleaning, you can buy replacement fans.
nburg July 19, 2024 July 19, 2024 Only big boy lights that I know of that don't have fans are ATI stratons, Phillips coral care and neptune sky (i think?) almost every other non-strip light will have fans. I am super happy with my ATI stratons, so if you're not worried about cost, they would be a good option. The new gen 2s are expensive, but they have one that is longer now and a single light would blanket your tank and would be tank upgrade friendly.
