  1. It is fuzzy but not too slimy no bubbles trapped within so I don't think it's dino, from my couple hours of research on the subject. Also my snails seem to be doing "fine".
  2. Maybe? I think I changed it from a custom setting to the "natural" spectrum sunrise - sunset provided by the ecotech radion software.
  3. Thanks for the reply. I'm almost 100% sure thats a no. We don't have any aerosol products in the house that I can think of and the tank is well away from the kitchen and garage where paint and sovents may be used.
  4. This started about the 2 month mark and is aggressive. It grows on everything including on and directly in front of the Vortech MP 10 running at 60-70% and worse yet it grows on top of the Macros! Dud water tests and ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, and phosphate are all undetectable. I feed sparingly 3 x a week. Skim moderate to wet, and have a CUC consisting of 10ish various snails, including turbo and olive snails, and 15-20 ish hermits. I do a 20% water change every 2 weeks right now with reef crystals and RO water. The only major error was up until 3 weeks ago I had been running the tank around 1.019 or so specific gravity due to a miscalibrated refractometer. I am planning on starting to run bio pellets soon (dumping into the intake area of the Tunze DOC 9004 skimmer I run). The tank does have a fuge that's lit 24/7 and a sicce 1.5 return pump. Top off water is also RO. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'VE been reefing for 15-ish years and don't remember encountering this algae before.
  5. Create a positive air pressure envelope, pretty much ad described above
  6. I'm super impatient to set up my tanks (IM 30 and JBJ 3 gal) and I need a lot of the misc stuff like upgraded return pump, controller, filter floss, seachem, DI resin, etc. Should I give into my impulses now or wait it out? Who should I look out for?
  7. Lets Necro a super old thread. Hey Rob, how did the clown Trio turn out?
  8. I have an IM AIO tank that has a much higher flow/return rate on one side vs the other. I swear it's a 28 gal but I can't seem to find any literature on the tank. I'm wondering if it's by design or something else...? I'm using a Sicce 350 ish gal per hour return pump. The tank appears to be level side to side. The intake combs/slots are clear. Any suggestions on how to fix it would be great. The flow is too slow for my fuge side and it's killing my cheato

  10. Right around 3-4 years and yes it was a eheim / Jager heater
  11. If the resolution isn't clear, the tank hit almost 99 degrees.
  12. After all the crap I've put all my tanks through. I finally had a hard crash. This pair of clowns had been laying eggs constantly. I got to see them mate, clear rocks, lay, protect, and hatch eggs for the last year or two. What is by far on of my most trusted brand of heater failed... in the on position. Lesson learned/re-learned. Undersized heaters people! Seriously youre house is pretty close to the 70's anyway. Use high quality heaters, though... those break down too... Controllers... may be worth the investment. I'm anticipating moving in the next two months and I've now got a helluva hair algae problem. I don't know whether to rebuild or dry her out and start over. :(
  13. The vortech battery back up is rather expensive. Can one just substitute a computer UPS? If so any recommendations on what to look for in a computer battery back up?
  14. 12 tunes for 4.70$ with prime on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004YEN37K/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?tag=slicinc-20&ascsubtag=43c43f6ac39911e594aa4234b3f23d160000&ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
  15. Its 1 going to be held in place by stupid strong rare earth magnets and 2 only be partially submerged
  16. I need a small custom acrylic box made for me. I needs to be 12.5" tall, and have the internal dimensions as follows 2.75" x 2.25" and I'd prefer it be made out of something thinner than 3/8ths. It needs to be water tight. I can be made of scrap of acrylic of any color scratches etc. matter. Can anyone build this for me or point me to someone who will? Cash money of course.
  17. http://www.ebay.com/itm/aquarium-glass-Stainless-Steel-Algae-scraper-blade-Cleaner-Razor-coralline-/181481809820?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item2a4128a79c $16 allegedly stainless, sure why not. I'll let you guys know how it works out. It also looks like it uses Comercial ly available blades ? It's clearly a rip off of an ADA product, but who cares that crap is a rip off anyway and it's got a decent design.
  18. Full time work + full masters class load + dog with cancer = some tank neglect
  19. I've had/tried the kent one, the problem is when I'm trying to get to a real low angle. I.e. low angle of the scraper handle to the plane of the glass. The low angle causes the black ummm bezel, mount, what have you to rub the glass and there for elevate the blade off the glass making it useless. Additionally the blades the kent scrapers come with are dull safety blades. I'm looking for a full on hardcore razor blade.
