  2. I use a 110 gal fresh water tank and a 175 gal salt water tank. The the tanks are great if you have the room and mixing salt once every two months is bonus. The gallon markings on the side also make mixing easier. When I purchased two tanks at the same time, I only had to pay shipping for one tank. I believe both tanks were around $350 for both inclusing shipping. HTH http://www.ntotank.com/verticaltanks.html
  3. I live right by Wally's and too am hoping for great improvements. I feel I must comment on the quality of the large rack of tanks they have built. Being a non-engineer type, I believe the large rack is serously underbuilt. It is about 40-50 10 gallon aquariums stacked on top of each other. It is basically a bunch of crossed 2x4's with no support bracing. Each row of 8 tanks us supported by about 12 drywall screws. They did not even use and exterior grade screw. The rack is also very tall, I am 6'2" and the racks are taller then me. I mentioned my questions to one of the employees and he stated lots of people were saying the rack is not supported correctly but the owner had done some calculations and said each brace was supporting X amount of weight and would be fine. As I stated before, I am not a general contractor or any type of construction expert. I could be totally wrong, but from what I researched before I built my first stand is you do not use screws to support your load. If there is a general contractor or structural engineer type who would like to stop by take a look, that would be great. I would hate to see a new LFS owner who seems to be headed in the right direction with this store have some type of tragic accident happen.
  4. I believe that "sale" price may stay that way for a while. It was $3.98 a pound at our fall meeting a couple months ago. I had him pick out about 150lbs of it for me just before our fall meeting. Not only was it excellent LR, but he delivered it for free to the meeting. I would not hesitate to order more from him in the future.
  5. Get the ACIII. You can even set it up to contact you when things go bad. One of those rogue heaters becomes a bump in the road instead of a major disaster. I would not have a tank without one. Just my .02 cents.
  6. It is a decision only you can decide. But I feel putting one fish through a little stress is better then spreading something deadly to my entire tank exposing all corals and fish to disease.

  10. Nice work Dan, I hope we can get my tanks to look half as nice.
  11. I have seen that tank in person also. It is one sweet setup.
  12. You do not have to have an electrician do it. For around $1,000, Dominion power company will sell you one and hook it up. It is almost like having an extension cord for your home. When the power goes out you turn off all your circuits in your home. You then turn on only the ones you need to have running (fish related items, beer cooler etc) You then plug your outside plug into a generator you purchased. The larger generator you purchase the more items you can have run in your home. I believe it all boils down to how much inusrance you want to purchase; 1. A few dollars for a battery powered pump. 2. A few hundred dollars for a battery back up system. 3. $1,500 for a manual back up generator connected to your home. 4. $4,000+ for a fully automatic back up generator. Your choice.
  13. Welcome to the club, and yes come the the meeting on Saturday. You and I (my first meeting too) can hang out and act like we have been members for years!
  14. I could help also, but you would need to be more specific to be sure. It would be better if you came up with a date and time. With all the busy schedules, I believe more could commit then. Just my .02 cents.
  15. I really like the last one, excellent work. What are the dimensions of your tank? The big question is...are you happy with it?
  16. Krewlor - I used to play an online roleplaying game many years ago called Gemstone. It was a game based on magic and sword fighting evil creatures for silver coins, which allowed you to purchase items inside the game. The longer you played the more levels your character gained. The game is text based, no pictures and it is still around today. I sold the character to another player for some real life "silver" but I continue to use the name for other things outside the game. 17. I believe there are several different species of sea hares. Some only eat HA. I have one exactly like mling's. When I put him in the tank, before he even rolled off his back, he had started eating the HA off a nearby rock. He almost works 24/7 on the stuff. I believe the species is Aplysia punctata. I know this is not a cure all for HA, I am working on all the other things that must be done to keep it in check. But for someone who has fallen a little behind on tank maintenance, it might be easier then scrubbing rock and moving everything around. My wife who has no real intrest in my tank, suggested to me the other day I should leave the lights on a little longer so a little more HA will grow for "that thing". I even noticed her sitting down next to the tank and watching him a time or two do his thing. I will warn you about the sea hares.....they have faces only a mother would love.
  18. I am not sure what test kit you are using, but my Salifert test kit says you are supposed to "swirl" between each drop. Tetra test, the last test kit I used said to shake between each use. I believe I did read somewhere on the small sample kits (1 or 2 ml water samples) you were not supposed to shake, but were supposed to swirl. The introduction of microbubbles on such a small water sample would skew the interpretation of the results. I am going from memory here, and lately I don't seem to remember quite as much as I used to.
  19. It does look lots better then before. I can see many more places for the fish to hide. My overall comment would be it looks a little "stacked" to me. It seems like it could look a little more natural. Is the structure solid? Overall it is a great improvement and your aquascaping skills are improving.
  20. I did read a long thread on Reef Central about raising mag levels to 1500+ to help fight HA. I believe the argument was with mag levels that high, the HA could not reproduce (?), giving your cleanup crew more time to catch up and eliminate it. It was still a highly debated practice on the thread. I am still so new to SW I do not even test mag levels yet. I do think I have that nitrogen cycle thing down though.
  21. I could help out. Just let me know where and I will be there.
  22. Please tell me why you ordered your tank from them? The owner does not respond to email, The owner yells at you, the owner is rude to you, is overcharging you by "highway robbery" for shipping, does not want to do some of the work for you and all of this BEFORE you have paid him a dime. How did you expect him to treat you after the sale? Please do not think I am excusing anything they did. But I do believe as consumers we have a duty to spend our money wisely. Being a person who is actively looking for a company to build my tank, thank you for being brave enough to share your story, I hope we both learned something from it.
  23. The prices they offer make their tanks very tempting. I am considering a 400 gal system (96x30x31). Any ideas on other tank companies I should consider and possible websites, so I could do some product/price comparisons? Sory NAGA, not trying to hijack your thread just doing research for an informed decision.
  24. I have a RO/DI unit from BRK I purchased last year and never hooked up. I believe it is a 75 gpd unit, this can be confirmed with John at BRK. I know you are on a limited budget and I would be willing to let it go at a great price. Let me know if you are interested. Brian
