  1. LOL. Measure out how much salt you use the next time you make 1.025 and you won't need to use the refractometer as much . That said...I don't know the answer.
  2. That tank was sitting out there the last time I was there over a year ago. FWIW, I bought my 90 gallon from them since they had the cheapest price (of the stores I knew of at the time).
  3. I got back into reef keeping because I was jealous of my wife's horse hobby. That's one hobby more expensive than reef keeping so I don't get much grief . She enjoys looking at my tank.
  4. heheh. I'm just trying to get some tank stand conversation going so I can LEARN something .
  5. I'm no expert on building anything, but I think the diagonal supports on the side combined with the pieces close to the floor will stabilize it enough. It is appears to be attached to the wall so I ASSume that adds something. It would take quite a bump to get that thing to sway. Just my $.02. I have an AGA stand .
  6. Thanks John. I'm glad I only live 20 minutes from your store .
  7. You'll be fine as long as the above advice is followed in regards to placement, but don't sue me when it falls through . However, you might be violating a lease agreement if you're renting your apartment.
  8. I'd like to know if BRK has a regular shipment schedule for fish/coral or is it just done on an as needed basis? Thanks for the great service you provide. ~Steve Downs
  9. The only time I had a RBTA eat one of my fish was when my Akindynos caught my brand new 1.5 inch blue tang and feed him to the RBTA. The poor guy had been in the tank 2 minutes :(. Watching this happen was both amazing and depressing. I suggest checking your overflow, floor, and sump. My sixline ended up in the overflow twice. It may look like he can't get in there, but he will. Also, if he died then inverts can break him down before you have a chance to notice he's dead. Some inverts will carry him back to an area in the rockwork that you cannot see.
  10. Thanks Howard. I joined the club last year and you've been helpful on many occasions. Thanks for all the work you've done behind the scenes.
  11. Where do you have the coral in your tank? BTW, training it is not that difficult. Mine was trained to open up at 7pm at one point in time and it took very little effort.
  12. I made several purchases at F&F this weekend. I'm very happy with all of them and the prices.
  13. A small portion of that top group was there when I purchased the coral. There are also newer polyps around the bottom part of the rock, but the more obvious ones are those at the top.
  14. I stopped direct feeding my sun coral and they are spreading like weeds. I'm not saying you should do the same, but it has worked great for me. They're also open pretty much all day long though they open up much more late at night. It has also stopped my shrimp from walking all over the sun coral . I've seen my sun coral eat brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, nori, etc. I feed Liquid Life Bioplankton and Marine Plankton to my tank every other day. Here's a link: http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_additi...ton.asp?CartId= My pic is nowhere near as pretty, but you can see the newer members of the colony are at the top. I've added a bit more rock work since this pic was taken and the sun corals no longer receive any direct light.
  15. From the album: SteveD's 90gallon AGA

These are my sun corals just before lights out.
  16. You'll be fine, but do a normal sized water change if you're paranoid and have not already done one recently. I actually turn mine off when I notice it looks nasty and inefficient, but I don't have time to clean it...like when I'm running out the door to work or something. Note that my tank is relatively lightly stocked.
  17. You can buy it directly from the store. The drop shipped LR is just a cheaper option that he offers. I've got about 100 pounds of his LR that I picked out at his store. The LR is good enough though not spectacular. I picked up about 20lbs of fiji LR from BRK today and it seems to be pretty good, but the verdict is still out. I suggest checking there first.
  18. I'll be at all three! I'm looking forward to it.
  19. I don't think you need that much lighting for a FOWLR. You mentioned the tank will eventually be reef so perhaps purchasing that fixture might be wise though I don'tk now how long it will be until you add some coral. My guess is you won't be able resist long and with that lighting there will be plenty of "easy" options for you. You could always keep the halids turned off until you have a need for them. I've only been keeping coral for about half a year, so take my advice as you see fit.
  20. The price will drop if you enter your zipcode. At least, it did for me.
  21. That's a nice looking RBTA. What sort of lighting are you using? I've got an RBTA, but he opens up a bit more than that and has a pink color. He looks like yours when 4 of my 6 T5s turn off for the night...he also shrinks significantly. I wish it had that appearance more of the time. The fact that it opens up so much makes me think he is doing it due to insufficient lighting.
  22. I've had a mixed experience with the Marine Scene. Some of their staff have flat out failed the 'stupid questions' I ask just to see their responses. Others have been extremly helpful. However, I'd much rather give my money to F&F or BRK.
  23. Threads like this make me want to sell my townhouse and finall get a home large enough for ginormous tank.
