  1. Primary reason for switching away from IE.. I am running firefox. www.mozilla.com
  2. At this rate it will be Blue Ribbon Marine and Koi!!! Great work John. I stopped by and harassed Byron today. Its looking good! I'll be back in to get some clams once my tank settles down some.
  3. Depending on the date I have a full brick of cyclopeez that I can donate.
  4. Move along, nothing to see here...
  5. Oohh.. I'll go look for some recipes. MMM barbecued derasa, derasa scampi, maybe a nice derasa's casino. Mmmm
  6. Some quick research revealed that tridacnid clams are eaten as food in Asia. Here is some good identification info on the tridacnids: http://www.fao.org/docrep/field/003/AC293E/AC293E06.htm
  7. That does raise an interesting question. Aside from the ethics of eating one's pet, would there be any health issues with eating a clam that lived in a reef tank?
  8. While I agree that the best method is to install a T to make a bypass, I have to chime in on your first assertion. A Mag pump is a centrifugal pump. And yes you can put back pressure on a centrifugal pump via a throttling valve. This does increase the wear on the pump, most noteably the impeller. And if you throttle it too much you can end up overheating some pumps (depending on the configuration many do rely to a certain extent on the fluid being moved to cool the impeller bushings.)
  9. You come up with more random stuff to post on here..
  10. So what your saying is it isn't like the Jimi Hendrix experience?
  11. I heartily concur. Also check them every week or so by powering down the return pump to make sure that they aren't blocked by algae. Trust me, it ain't fun cleaning up large spills from the tank..
  12. Any and all possible hardware type supplies you can imagine. And, they ship super fast. I placed an order Wednesday morning, had it shipped ground, and it was on my doorstep Thursday afternoon when I got home from work. www.mcmaster.com BB
  13. If it ever works out I vote for Bonaire! Best diving (well I only snorkled due to a sinus infection) I ever did in the Carribbean. Although I never got over to Mexico or any of the central american dive sites. Awesome pics. Makes me want to dive again.
  14. $6 if you "buy it now" can't get much cheaper than that!
  15. Hole size depends on the bulkheads you will be using. They all have the hole size requirements with the specs on the fitting. 1.5" uses a 1.75" hole (I think). I would use 1 1/4" bulkheads. I think the center of the hole should be 3-4" from the frame of the aquarium. Then you put a 90 on the bulkhead and then your strainer piece and that way you can adjust the water level by rotating the 90 until you get the level where you want it.
  16. I used an old IO salt bucket for my fuge. I drilled a hole in it with a hole saw, used a Uniseal bulkhead fitting and have it gravity feed back into the sump. The nice thing is the bucket is taller than the sump so it makes it easy for the return and I don't have to have the bucket sitting on anything. It works great, except my original idea of using some netting to act as a screen on the overflow. Don't do that, bad juju. (It clogged and overflowed then my ATO kicked in and dumped 30-40 gallons FW into the tank during the stir cycle on my Kalk reactor.)
  17. ooohh.. cool. Anyone have experience with the Turbo 1260 model? Looks interesting. It has a carbon/rowaphos chamber internal to the unit. Hmm..
  18. Wouldn't that be March 2nd?
  19. To eliminate the crashing into the sump noise just pop a couple of 90's in the drain line before it hits the water and plumb the pipe slightly below the water surface in the sump.
  20. I am actually surprised that we don't get more of these types of drive by posters.
  21. Trust me, and I'm sure others would agree with me. I have killed more unfortunate corals than I care to think about. (Not to mention the ones I have intentionally pulled out and tossed during "weeding" expeditions.) I actually just recently offed 3 SPS colonies with a recent tank malfunction. It happens. Not that you should be come jaded or not strive to keep everything that you acquire alive, but deah is unfortunately a part of reefkeeping.
  22. Do you know if the xenia was recently imported or was it from someones tank? From what I understand that makes a huge difference in the survivability. If you are coming to the meeting I can scrape off a few stalks (would 15-20 be enough?) and you can try again. A little superglue and your all set. BB
  23. I swung through there last week. Kudos on the improvements it looks great! I saw some of those xenia that you had. I might just have to stop by and get one to try for myself. BB
