  1. Mine were doing something similiar. I stopped adding kalk to my topoff water and they opened back up after a couple of weeks. May not be related.
  2. I have the MSX 160 and am very pleased with it. I think it is well made and easy to make adjustments. Mine has a meshwheel in which I added more material. Sometimes I have to blow into the tube to get it started, but that's because of the extra mesh. I would buy MSX again. If that helps.
  3. I was off yesterday from work and thought I would sneak over there while the wife was at work to check it out. The store is very clean and well organized. I purchased a couple of fish and some other odd and ends. A few of the purchases did not work out and eventhough their policy clealy states that I would not be able to return the m, they did give me store credit. Just wanted to express my appreciation and hope that the other members have as good an experience as I did. Be sure to show them your WAMAS card as well.
  4. Thanks, Steve. Would you be available Wednesday evening, if not, what about this weekend? Craig
  5. Thanks for the response, good points. I need it for acrylic. I live near Dumfries, VA. [ quote name=xCGx' date='Oct 6 2008, 08:06 PM' post='220970] I have a new tank and want to install hayward bulkheads but I don't have the right size hole saws. I need one for an 1 1/2 and another for a 1 inch bulkhead. These bulkheads are a little larger than the regular "hobby" bulkheads. If anyone has one or the other or both, please let me know, we can work something out. thanks, Craig

  7. I keep mine at 1.026 after reading this....Reef Aquarium Water Parameters
  8. I've had a disaster as well. I had a float switch on one end and ran the waste end into the sink. It is secure except when the wife removed it at night to brush her teeth and didn't put it back. It ran almost all night. The waste end puts out a lot more water, so our ceiling, brand new wood floors, and the ladies ceiling below us soaked up much of the water. Now we are a messed up mentally, always worried about another water disaster. The first thing I do when I get home is look up at the ceiling....paranoid, not about the ro/di, but about the tank blowing.
  9. I've never had mine trip when I wasn't home. Some people have the main pump on a seperate outlet and their powerheads, etc. on anothers so that if one trips the other is working. Also, make sure you have your power pords have the drip in them so the water goes below the outlet.'' One has a grounding probe or one has a GFI?
  10. Did you have a GFI and grounding probe? I have both and have had the grounding probe trip the GFI while my hands were in the tank.
  11. I am currently using the 250w hamilton 14k. I like the color, but growth is slow compared to the xm 10k. This is my first set so I don't have any laying around sorry.
  12. I've read that an unlevel tank can cause it to leak. Would checking to see if the tank is level do any good at this point? Maybe worth a try.
  13. I'm not an SPS guru, but I know that they are a little more demanding, so its good to know things like how old your bulbs and what your calc and other parameters are at. I would check calc and adjust and buy new lights. Going to 400 watt lights depends how deep your tank is. You could probably stay with 250's and use xm 10'ks. Look up SANJAY on reefcentral, he has done the numbers as far as bulbs, ballasts, and such and has an interactive website. As far as coral growth, you would have to let us know your other parameters and equipment that you use, etc. craig
  14. I have rock sitting directly on the glass.
  15. A grounding probe may have saved them. Sorry about your loss.
  16. magnesium is used after you have finished using the entire bottle of calcium and alk. the magnesium part is a combo of epsom salt and mag flake/pellets depending on the recipe utilized. you only use the two part to get your levels to where you want them and then drip kalk to maintain those levels.

  19. I was doing the 5 gallon bucket method, now I use a mag12. Which puts the water back in really quick. As long as the water is a couple of days old and the temps and SG are the same I don't have any problems.
  20. I'm in the same boat...if you find out any information outside of WAMAS, let me know what you come up with. I know MOGA had his built but I don't think the builder was local. You can try searching through his posts.
  21. I was thinking about getting lyretails. I've read that it best to have a harem? which I think is 1 male and two females. Where do you read that you need 8:1? Not doubting you, just want to make an informed decision on my next purchase. 9 anthias would probably to many for a 100gallon so I hoping to only have 3.
  22. If you are having class cut for baffles make sure that they polish the sides that will be on top, otherwise those edges are like razor blades. I had mine cut at a place in Woodbridge if you are still looking.
