To all of our friends and customers, When Tina and I opened the Marine Scene 20 years ago, our goal was to create an outstanding retail and service business providing top quality products and services. I feel very confident in affirming that we did in fact reach those goals. At some point in the future we have plans to retire out of the area. That involves a great deal of planning, especially given the nature of owning this business and the building in which it resides. I have entertained numerous scenarios including the sale of the retail business to an interested party, closing the retail and focusing specifically on service and or shifting to a limited hour’s retail operation. One of the most significant aspects of this entire process is developing a smooth transition and sale of the business to Bobby Haas who has demonstrated incredible loyalty and has effectively become my most trusted confidant. Bobby has earned the right to carry the torch forward and will do so with great results. With the upcoming departure of two full time employees, we have decided that the time is perfect to shift to a new plan of operation. That plan is to become a service oriented business during the week and focus on a limited hour’s retail operation. We will continue to maintain the high standards of quality of product and service we are known for albeit fewer days per week. Effective the week of May 16, 2016 we will shift our retail hours to Fridays from 10 -7 and Saturdays from 10 -6. During this transition you will see some physical changes to the facility as we begin to streamline our inventory and holding systems to facilitate an easier and less labor intensive operation. This transition will allow us to continue to serve our loyal retail clientele with the same level of expertise and quality all the while allowing us to focus on transitioning myself out of the operation. I feel this is a great balance and want to thank you in advance for your continued patronage. Tom White

In our Tuesday shipment we brought in some Purple Pygmy Anthias, a Sandhopper Blenny (also called the Red Stripe Sand Perch), a Bluefin Watchman Goby, and two Pink and Yellow Cucumbers! Along with those newbies, today we unloaded a shipment from ORA with some awesome new captive bred fish! The Marine Scene Staff FEATURED ANIMALS Sandhopper Blenny Also called the Redspot Sand Perch, these fish are active and can do well in tanks as small as 30 gallons. They're generally non aggressive with other species of fish and are coral safe! "Stardust People Eater" Palythoas A cool palythoa with purple colors and covered with light speckles, giving it the "stardusted" look! Brian is in love with this colony and already got a couple polyps from it for his tank! Pink and Yellow Cucumber These colorful sea cucumbers stay up on the glass or rock, extending their feeder tentacles to catch small particulates from the water. They like a variety of small foods like oyster feast, cyclo-peez, and particulates left over from general tank feedings. OTHER GOODIES Purple Pygmy Anthias A small and bright Anthias that comes in a mix of purple, pink, and golden colors. These anthias can do better in small systems than their relatives like the Lyretail or Bartlett's Anthias ORA Blood Orange Clownfish A new fish from ORA! This clownfish is a hybrid of the Ocellaris Clown and the Marroon Clown! It has the large fins of the marroon and a deep orange body with a the bold white stripes of an ocellaris clown. ORA Black Neon Dottyback A hybrid of the Neon and Springeri dottybacks, the base coloring of this fish can change from jet black to rust, depending on it's mood and environment. You will need a BIG tank since these guys can grow to be about 16 inches long! We would suggest a tank of at least 180 gallons with ample swimming room. If you want a schooling fish, we have a good selection in stock! Currently available is a cute school of Bangaii Cardinalfish, trio of Lyretail Anthias, and a bunch of very colorful Firefish. The trio of Lyretail Anthias will add a lot of color and movement to your tank, while the Firefish and Cardinalfish will be more stationary schoolers. Lots of wrasse to choose from this week! We got in some McCosker's Wrasse, a very curious and sociable Labouti Wrasse, and Yellow Coris Wrasse just to name a few! I've been using a Canon A570IS powershot with the underwater housing on all my dives and it has worked out quite nicely for me. As LCDRDATA mentioned, you can do pretty much everything with it in the housing that you can do out of the housing. And it goes to depths of up to 130 feet. I have not yet used a strobe with it but I'm pretty sure you can. I use it at the store to take our coral pictures as well. I think they're great and compact for fun dives. Did you know that most fish foods do not have sufficient amounts of vitamins and minerals? Dry, frozen and even some live foods loose most of their vitamins and minerals thru the packaging process. We carry a variety of food additives to replenish your foods with the vitamins and minerals needed to keep your aquarium fishes healthy and happy. Garlic Power, Zoe, Zoecon, Selcon, AminOmega, Vita-Chem, and Vitamarine-C are a few of the food additives we keep on our shelves. Supplementing your fishes foods with a combination of these additives will help keep them healthy and prevent parasites such as marine Ich. For those of you with Tangs, feeding them with various types of seaweed soaked in vitamin supplements such as the Zoe, Zoecon and Garlic Power should help keep them healthy and gradually bring back its color if it has dulled out. Tangs are extremely susceptible to a condition called Lateral Line Disease and after extended periods of time in captivity their color begins to fade and they may develop a pale line extending from their eyes to their tail. The jury is still out on why exactly this occurs yet we do know that it is nutrition and tank size related. Make sure all your fishies are getting a good nutrition based diet by adding these vitamins and minerals to your feeding regiment. Don't forget many of these food additives are on sale this weekend!

Can't wait to see you! ~The Marine Scene Team What's New A few fish arrived this week that we haven't had available in a while. First to mention is the Vlamingi Tang. This is just like the beautiful Tang we have in our main reef display. As with most Tangs, the Vlamingi will grow quite large so you need to make sure you have a large tank for this guy with lots of swimming space and provided with a good veggie diet. A beautiful male Vermiculite Wrasse is available and a great addition to a community reef system. Provide this beauty with lots of rockwork and a nice sandy bottom for it to bury themselves at night. A larger Pink Spotted Watchman Goby is ready to go home with you. Check out the pair we have in our new Red Sea MAX display. They are busy working on their little tunnel system in the substrate. Shrimp Gobies and Pistol Shrimp are an interesting addition to any reef aquarium as their symbiosis is quite interesting to watch and it adds some focus to the lower area of your tank. We have a few other neat Shrimp Gobies including the pretty Pink Bar Goby, Yashia and Hi Fin Gobies and Yellow Watchman Gobies. Happy Friday Fish Friends! We've been very busy in the shop this week upgrading equipment, fragging corals, working on the new Red Sea Max system and helping all of our awesome customers. We have swapped out the halides over one of our coral tanks with the new Radion LED units and it looks amazing! Lots of coral fragging has been going on so there are decent size frags at great prices! The new Red Sea Max S500 is up and running and we have added more rock, sand and coral. It is truly a great all-in-one system! We hope to see you soon! ~The Marine Scene Team What's New A nice coral shipment arrived mid-week including some gorgeous Trachyphyllias and Wellsophyllias, neon green Bubbles, lots of nice Frogspawn and Torch, green Long Tentacle Plates, sweet Zoanthids, Aussie Elegance, Blastomussa, Leathers, Mushrooms and some Acropora colonies. Brian and Matt have also been busy fragging up some larger coral colonies to give everyone a chance at that rare or unusual piece of coral. We have plenty of Sunny D's Palythoa frags with 3-5 polyps for $29.99 as opposed to a 1-polyp frag online for $29.99, and Blue Zoa frags with 10+ polyps for $39.99 compared to a 2-polyp frag online for $39.99. Rare orange and green Leptastrea frags are available and going fast. These are similar to the Favia Brain family and are quite hardy and very bright! Aussie Maze, Prism and Reverse Prism Brain frags are also available along with some really sweet Acropora, Montipora, Pocillopora and Psammocora frags. Excellent when used in a media reactor, Rowaphos Phosphate Absorbent can be used in freshwater and saltwater aquariums to reduce the main cause of algae problems-phosphates. It acts as an absorbent sponge, removing phosphate caused by decomposing food or overfeeding, bringing the concentration back to a natural level and never releasing the phosphate back into the water.
