  1. my water level is good... so the air valve does it huh! that's cool. yeah my air valve is alll the way open. that would explain it.
  2. no, but i took that picture only a few hours after i put it in the tank. however, it wasn't becoming evident until after the lights are off. there's no signs of predation, it's ridiculously healthy. this morning, a lot of it was gone, but there still were a few small spots. i guess i'll see what happens after the lights go out tonight. i need a better camera, any recommendations?
  3. what the heck is this white stuff on my monti? i just noticed it. it's flowing in the current. all around the edge and randomly on the main body. new growth? EH? HELP! this is about a 4" colony, to help with perspective. i think they are too big for nudis, and they don't look like any pics i've seen of them.

  6. my skimmate is super wet... i have a pump fed one i got from BRK... how do i adjust and make it skim a bit more dry? thanks!
  7. nice chris! i would bet the lighting is a 150w de 20K.
  8. glad to hear it doug!!! maybe he was dieting in anticipation of the holiday weight he's sure to put on. he'll have to fit into that size 4 versacce slime coat come summer, ya know.
  9. i might go a little lower on the hermit #, as that's a lot of possibility to predate on your new snails.
  10. ok so what are they called? composite shims? is that what HD calls them? how many will i need?
  11. so, shimming technique? what size would i need? 1/4" plywood be too much?
  12. well, a) it's on carpet. b) i'm not sure if the FLOOR is totally level. I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case. how do you shim on carpet? i'd need to run board the whole length of the tank, correct?
  13. my 90 gallon is not 100% level, after it's settled since saturday night. the water level at the front is 1/4" higher than at the back. side to side is perfect. is this a big deal?
  14. well, whatever they are, they seem to be decreasing in numbers. maybe something is eating them.
  15. I just wanted to give a big public thank you to Chris Bashaw. he worked a long day/evening with me on saturday to swap my 58 over to the new 90. He has also assisted me numerous times leading up to this in construction and design, especially the inital construction on the canopy. He truly embodies the generosity that I've come to love with WAMAS!! Thank you Chris!!
  16. haha, well, not really "saves"... I didn't have anything to save! i've been down to BRK several times in the past few months in anticipation of swapping over to the 90 (which happened this past weekend). i've picked up loads of equipment, advice, and coral from john and byron and the guys there, and i've been very pleased with the quality of service. of note, i went down to get some plumbing supplies, and john walked me through the whole thing, hose barbs and all. it was great, he just grabbed his little mini grocery cart, wheeled it over to plumbing, and started tossing stuff in. what he did in 5 minutes would have taken me at least an hour at home depot to figure out. they also gave me a great deal on a used deltec skimmer. john had the forethought to remove as little of the internal slime coat as possible while cleaning it up for me, so break-in time was about 10 minutes. it's currently nogging away in my sump. i know they are very highly regarded, but i just wanted to toss some more feel good vibes their way. keep up the great work guys!!!
  17. negative!! none of those. hmm... maybe snails i guess, huh?
  18. noo. probably just snails with no shells yet.... that's what i'm hoping, anyway. i'll keep you guys updated.
  19. thanks dave for the photo tip. they are moving around, slowly. they are also pretty big... like 1/2" are the biggest.
  20. my camera sucks... i got a pretty good closeup on the other shot in the gallery.
  21. good ideas... i have another theory... but will release to the experts... also i have a closeup, if someone could throw that on too. i have nass and cerith snails that have been reproducing like crazy. could they be nass babies? i have no sand right now, but i did bring over a bunch of sand (in tupperware in the tank) to seed my new sand with. they are white.
  22. are these them? (see pics in gallery). i don't understand how i'm just now seeing them. i transferred over to the new tank (90) it was brand new. i didn't add any livestock since the 11th, and i never saw whatever this is in my old tank. now they are very abundant after 2 days in the new tank. i'm very confused. HELP!? pics are in my gallery... if someone could post them here, that would be great.
