  3. HELP...a friend's stolen livelihood! [Also in that lot of stolen goods will be some of my pre-signed books(!). Dirk is the only one I've done that for in yeeeeeeears. If anyone in the aquarium hobby/industry can help...please speak up! Anth-] Hey all, Our friend Dirk is a mobile aquarium dry goods shop who travels the country and sells at most of your cities local frag swaps and reef conferences. His trailer packed with thousands of products was just stolen from Columbus, OH. Below is a message from Dirk, asking for everyone's help. Please keep your eyes and ears open for someone trying to unload a huge volume of brand new aquarium related products. If you know anything, please contact Dirk (contact info is in the bottom of this post). Thanks for your help! Still looking for a thief. If you happen to come across some guy with a motherload of aquarium dry goods for sale, it may be stolen: A LOT of this is very unique to me and to the industry. I am throwing out a hail mary pass that if enough know about it, can tell a few people, list it on your boards, check your local Craigs list, Ebay, Amazon, STORES, maintenance firms large or small....someone might see something. I have a few photo's to show some of the items To me things that will stick out -The coral/glow sticks...NO one has them in quantities. They are 18" up to 72" long and in green, orange and red. -The cubes I store things in are from Target called Itso cubes. They are white and have 2 bolted together. They are 14 1/2", all the way around, obviously 2 of them will be 29" long/high. They stack pretty nice and hold a LOT of stuff. Hydor, Mag, Maxi-jet and other pumps and power heads. There are prices on the upper side of many of the cubes. -The drawers that also stack nicely are from Iris, they have not been made in 5-7 years. I checked because I wanted more of them, the company just giggled and said I was a bit late. They are filled with Elos, Radium, Ushio, XM MH se bulbs, test kits, cleaning magnets and lots of parts -5' silver truck box -2-black Contico boxes approx 34x24x24"Download IMG-20130608-00026.jpg (422.4 KB) -Tongs 12" angled with red coated tips, 24" tongs no coating -Skimmers from Coralife, Hydor, Aquatic life -UV's from Coralife and Tetra and replacement bulbs -2/3/4' T5 bulbs, 13/18/24/28/55/66/96w PC bulbs -Salifert and SeaChem test kits -Leds 6 to 48" long from Marineland, Aquatic Life -4' Coralife 4 bulb T5 -Black plastic tool box filled with Ushio, Phoenix, AB de MH bulbs This could go on for pages, do what you can to get the word and photos out. Most of this is going to stick out, with who ever might get some or all. I will offer a reward of up to $1000 depending on what is recovered. thanks, Dirk 651 388 7319 reefgrip@hotmail.com

  5. The space next door to us has been vacant for 6 years now... They get a tax write off based on the property value, which doesn't always coincide with actual, plausible retail rent.
  6. Double check salinity, double check your instrument for measuring salinity. Alkalinity also... Sean
  7. Just wondering if we have any members that use a brand of lanthanum that they've bought from a pool supply store, what the dosage is, and the results. Thanks Sean
  8. the only problem I have had with crystal Sea, and I've been using it in the store and on several other tanks over the years, is it MUST be mixed with 0 ppm TDS water. When I was having issues with my RO unit not producing below 5 ppm TDS I noticed Diatom algae growth following water changes. After troubleshooting my issue I traced the problem back to bad membranes. If you are going to use it, I do the following when mixing 140 gallons of water: add 1 box bioassay( i know it says it makes 150 gallons, but if you read closely the package says this mix provides a SG of 1.023-24), Add 75mL of B-Ionic part 1 and 2. My testing on the batches prepared this way always read the following levels: dKH= 10-11, Cal= 420-450, mag=1290-1350. And yes the salt mix parameters were lower a few years ago, but now I believe the production of Crystal Sea has become geared more towards reef tanks. Hope that helps, Sean
  9. I believe Crystal Sea is somehow affiliated/partnered with the Baltimore aquarium....

  13. mikki, what are you using to test SG? Have you calibrated it recently? You'd be surprised how much the refractometers can drift away from calibrated readings. Just saying, yeah eyes are the best tool for reading health. But my eyes tell me that the nem is not so happy. IME and at my holding tanks at the store, the only time my nems look unhappy is when the salinity drifts outside of ideal range. And typically everything else in my LPS/softy system can tolerate the change, however, nems do not. Hope that helps, Sean Survival of the fittest aye Rob?
  14. That may be, but if she isnt testing for SG or alk I would start there.... Those two parameters affect anemones more so than other livestock, bc after all they are bags of water.
