  1. I did the soda bottle yeast thing for about a year. I used a 2 litre soda bottle drilled a hole in the top and glueg in an airline valve. I then drilled a hole in the filter intake tube. I ran the airline tube from the yeast bottle through a bubble counter into the filter intake. the reason I ran into the filter intake was to make sure the co2 was mixing with the water. You need max contact with the water to get it to mix properly. It did work great and I really saw a big improvement from my plants. here is a mix The third step is to create CO2. I mix 3/4 cup sugar, 6 cups water and a pinch of yeast (roughly 1 teaspoon does the trick). The exact ratio of ingredients is not critical. For example, I use enough water to fill the bottle to about 3 inches from the top. You don't want to get the mixture too full, as the mixture may foam a bit, and you don't want the foam flowing into your tank. Using the above mixture, I regularly get 10-14 days of strong CO2 production, at a rate of one bubble every 3-7 seconds. When the system stops bubbling (the drop in gas production is often precipitous), dump out everything and mix up a new concoction. check here http://www.thekrib.com/Plants/CO2/co2-narten.html Chris
  2. Hi Dan I have a 100 gallon one you can have. I switched to a new sump setup and now it's kust taking up room. Chris
  3. I have to agree without a path to ground it should not be a problem for the livestock, but it is. From my expereince I had problems with polyp extension. I have a yellow monti digitata that would not extend it's polyps during the day. When I put my ground probe in the polyps shot out within 5 minutes, and have been out ever since. So I have to assume that even in the closed system there was still a path to ground. Chris
  4. Put me in for a bag. I need a better solution the Wages. Thanks Chris
  5. Welcome Folta Congrats on the move to Salt. I did it 3 years ago and never looked back. The things we can do with saltwater and life you never expect to see is amazing. Thanks for saving those fish I know they're getting much better care now. Hope to see you at the next meeting.. Chris
  6. Hey Gary I agree is bigger better, I just want to find out if we would be way overkill with one that big. If Chips can handle a tank of 1000 gallons I think we can make it smaller . As for my tanks I purchased my 30 fresh locally here in Leesburg 5 years ago. My 1st 75G was purchased from Annandale Aquarium and my 2nd 75g was purchased from a guy in Maryland, it was a complete setup. All the stands and canopies are DIY 75% done and 150G sump is a rubbermaid stock tank I got from Tractor Supply in Leesburg. It's a really cool setup and I love it. I will have a tank tour this spring when we start again. Chris
  7. You got it Luke.. I am really busy now and when my training ends at the end of this month I hope to get back on this project and really make it happen. I need to visit the flower dude to look at his creation and put together a set of plans. Hang in every one and we will get this done. Thanks Chris
  8. LOL!! Thanks Lee No I don't think I could deal with a bare glass bottom maybe starboard but not glass. I do feel a DSB does have many benefits but I didn't realize how devistating it could be when they start to go. I like having it in the refug since then if it starts to go I can replace it easily. Chris
  9. Hi Guys I do agree with all. I had a sandbed that was about 5 inches on 1 side and 3 on the other. My tank is a 75 gallon and I have 3 maxijet 1200's and 1 SEIO Superflow 850 for circulation with about 600G an hour to the sump. I didn't remove all the sand I still have about 1/2 inch on the bottom for my snails the play in. When I set the new 75G tank up I moved 40Lbs of sand from my old 30G setup. The sand was 3 years old and I think it was already saturated with crap. I do have a 20 gallon refug that has a DSB and my other 75G tank that shares the sump still has a DSB. I am going to play with the setup over time but I do like the shallow sand bed in the SPS tank. I will keep you updated my progress. Chris
  10. Hi All I just wanted to update you all on the progress of algea problems. At the suggestion of members in the group I decided to remove my DSB about 3 weeks ago. Since removing the sand the tank has made a remarkable improvement. The hair algea growing on the back of the tank has all but dissappeared and corals I have never seen grow are showing signs of growth. What a change!!! Thanks Guys you're the best. Chris
  11. Hi All Just wanted to let you know that Reefscience has free shipping till Thursday. I have purchased from him before and the corals where very good. Reefscience Chris
  12. Hi all I apologize for not making it to the winter meeting. I had an emergency come up that forced me to miss the meting. For those I had trades with I can meet you guys sometime to trade. Just let me know how you would like to handle it. Thanks for your understanding Chris
  13. Hey Jake You didn't miss the CA reactor party we all got really busy the last few months. I want to get to chips to check out his reactor and I am looking to start this party up again soon. By soon I'm thinking April when it starts getting warm again. Chris
  14. Well guys I need to make my apologies to this thread. I have been swamped with work since the 1st of the year and haven't been able to make any progress on this. I am still interested in making this reactor but it looks like I am just going to get busier over the next month. If you guys want to move ahead without me I understand. If not I should be ready to go about mid March. Thanks Guys Chris
  15. My other thought is if this is a DIY job you may have the endcap wired wrong. If the endcap is wired wrong you will short the ballast which will blow a breaker. Chris
  16. Are you by any chance plugging 96w lamps into a 65w ballast? I would look for a new ballast... Chris
  17. Do you have anything else plugged into this circuit, heaters, pumps.... There may be aproblem with the PC or halides. They don't draw anywhere near 15 amps. You may have a problem with the new PC's. Chris
  18. The circuit could run more then just your room. I have circuits that include all the plugs in up to 3 rooms. You shouldn't have a problem with running the lights off the circuit alone. I have 4 175w MH with 440W VHO running off the same 15amp circuit. I would try to turn your lights on in a different order and see it it is always the same light tripping the breaker. Also look for other loads on that circuit. It may not be in your room. Chris
  19. Hey Sgt I have a small 2" yellow tort frag, to trade for a frag of your blue tort frag. Chris
  20. I have to give Acro Tri color (Tang Away- Sam) Yellow Miyagi Tort 1 branch 2 inches. (Lee) Yellow Dig (Holly) Green Dig Hey Doug I would love that green cap and torch Chris
  21. I was thinking of removing the DSB, but I really don't want bb and I'm not sure how crushed coral would look. Chris
  22. The RO system is less then 6 months old and I need to get a TDS meter to see it it's working. I was thinking of making a DIY DI canister for it so I can add DI. Chris
  23. Hey Howard Yep that slime algea can be a pain. and I was suprised at the results from adding the new probe. I just can't figure out what the corals are not extending the polyps.. I have 2 acro's that I have never seen the polyps extended.. The color seems good but they are closed up tight.. Chris
  24. Sunday isn't good for me [tr]. LMK know what I have to do and who needs money for the parts. Thanks Chris
