  1. My fire shrimp molted and my candy cane ate a big chunk of the shell.
  2. Ick? That link is a pic of my sump. Can also see it in my build thread - "Brads 65 gal reef"
  3. Strange, this is the right link. But his drain and return sections are a little small. Evaporation happens in the return section, go too small and won't have much room to work with. http://wamas.org/forums/topic/60926-20-gallon-long-sump-design/
  4. I sanded the sharp edges of the glass baffles on the drive way haha
  5. http://wamas.org/forums/topic/60926-20-gallon-long-sump-design/ Pretty much copied that one
  6. I used DAP marine silicon adhesive (not sealant). And held baffles in place to dry with old DVDs cases.
  7. Mine goes drain (10.5") fuge then return (7"). I could barely fit a reef octopus nwb150. I forgot still have to get it past the plastic lip on top.

  9. I used the cheapest glass from homedepot for my 20l sump. Its like $3 for a 24" x12" pane. They wouldn't cut it there, so I did it myself with a $3 glass cutter.
  10. Hopefully he's hiding. But they like hanging around the top.
  11. I think the noise was my skimmer eating my small clown fish (<1"). Haven't seen him since the skimmer started acting noisy. Not like him to hide, worried he got sucked down the overflow, made his way out of a filter sock and into the skimmer pump. He was the only one missing at the time of the noise :( I'll have to put some foam or something over the overflow box.
  12. No water in the silencer. The gurgling was a echoy sound that was being amplified from deep within. I thought maybe there could be water in the air line towards the bottom maybe. So I blew a lot of air Down it into the pump, didn't change anything. Wonder what caused it, oh well, at least it went away on its own.
  13. Problem seems to have fixed itself, it has queited back down. I might put the cotton ball back in there, makes it even quieter. I wonder if putting a short tube on the open vent pipe of the silencer would help too. Anybody else use any mods for the silencer?
  14. After 2 months of nearly silent operation, my reef octopus nwb150 just got ridiculously loud - like a toilet flushing. The noise is coming from the air-intake silencer. It has 2 tubes and one is capped with the black cap, w/o the cap its even louder. Sounds like loud water/air gurgling. I put a cotton ball in there for now, which helps a lot but its still too loud. Any advice for getting it quiet again? I tried blowing air into it, that didn't help at all.
  15. Found a similar thread with the similar pics on ultimatereef.net I guess they are fly pupae. Apparently they can come on new live rock that's was exposed to some air. I bet that was it, recently bought 20lbs of some live rock from LFS.
  16. Haha no bugs in the house. Only seen these things in the tank. Once or twice I've seen one wiggling as the floats along the sand bed in the current. I do have some big amphipods that I got from some cheato from Andrei. Also have lots of little white copepods all over the glass now. My tank is almost 2 months old.
  17. Does anyone know what these are? Are they good or bad? They look like little brown larva, every now and then I might see one or collect a couple in my filter sock. They have a row of little ridges on the sides.

From the album: 65 gallon build

  19. Ammonia and nitrites have been zero for the past 2 days. Getting ready to do a decent water change to bring down nirates. Then hopefully I can add a snail or something.
  20. Thanks for the help, you guys sold me on the avast ato. I guess my question is how does avast measure the pressure in the tube? - is it a capacitor or strain gauge or something else? I couldn't find the info online. I understand other systems use a mechanical switch, optical sensor or temp sensor and I could see the potential problems with those.
  21. I am leaning towards Avast's ATO with backup mechanical float switch to use with toms aqua lifter. But how does their pressure sensor work? Is it reliable?
  22. Got the wp-25 today. I am happy with it. It is pretty strong wide flow, makes a nice little wave with about 1in peaks and it is dead silent. At the highest setting it will start to blow a few small bits of sand around. Nitrites are still stuck at .25 ppm, this makes 4 days in a row now.
  23. Also, my ammonia has been 0 for the past couple days, but nitrites have been parked at .25 ppm for the past 3 days. Does this sound normal? any idea when it might finish? Been cycling for just over a week now, I was hoping it would be a little faster since I used 60lbs of live sand, 20lbs of live rock, and a bottle of bio-spira.
