  1. I just did a Google image search of stn. It totally looks like stn. What should I do now? Start fraging? I just did a water change, can it recover?
  2. Its looks like it's flaking off. Worried it might be stn. Could you pm me a few pics of yours please?
  3. The red Monti is about to touch the base of a neon green psammacora (I think that's the name)
  4. I have a red Monti that is encrusting such that its about to touch the base of another sps, will the other sps be ok? Or do I need to chip away at the Monti?
  5. I hope so. But its only half of the base, in the vertical direction there is a bone white patch about a centimeter or 2 high from the very base that meets the rock. I can see colorish greyish flesh on the other half but one side is def bone white. I'll keep an eye on it and frag a piece or 2 soon anyways.
  6. Thanks. I would love to find a which coral wins post. I recently had a green milie kill a small purple digi frag. I saw minstrels between the two, thought I separated the in time but the digi continued to loss flesh and die over the next 3 days.
  7. I have a large green birdnest colony. Its a little bigger than a grapefruit. I noticed the base is missing some flesh and is bone white. The base can't get any light. Is this normal? Will it spread? Do I need to hurry up and frag the colony in case it spreads?
  8. So diff montis can touch? Will an encrusting Monti kill other sps if it finally creeps up to another coral?
  9. Which sps can grow into each other? I have a green birdsnest, green Monti, stylophora and purple digi all about to grow into each other. Can any spa safely touch each other? They probably got 3 more weeks before growing into each other.
  10. How do you keep your anemone from stinging everything? My rbta destroys everything near it even Xenia. I guess gsp does ok, but it has to retract when touched.
  11. I like the dimensions of a 75 better than my 65, but with the 65 you can get away with one evergrow it2060, but a it2080 would be best. Lights are probably the most costly part. Also, a 65 is two feet tall, which makes it easy to keep diff types of coral with def light req happy.
  12. I think I got my 65 gal for $140 brand new. Its not a fancy brand or anything tho, just regular black plastic trim.
  13. 65 is what I have, it has the same foot print as a 40 breeder. They aren't that expensive either.
  14. Only other places are a few low flow spots on the sand bed, but I stir that up as soon as I see it with a toothbrush glued to a long PVC tube. And I don't have any other types of algae in my tank, at least cant see any. I used the turkey baster on the red dragon and it all came off like a charm, thanks! Bad news is the tips are white where the algae was. Should I wait and see what happens and keep turkey bastering it if it comes back, or clip the white tips now? If I clip, I'll have to scarifice nearly all the growth i got since adding it to my tank about 1.5 months ago. I haven't done a water change in over 3 months and haven't cleaned my power head in over 8 months. So I'll get to that asap. But my pH, alk, salinity and calc are all within ideal range, although alk is and counties to be on the low end. But I just got a Doser I need to set up, which I'll do soon. Thanks for the advice, wish I tried the baster before brushing it with a toothbrush. Actually, I used Julian's thing, it worked great. Now I really feel like an idiot.
  15. OK thanks for the advice. I'll add another power head. I only have one jeabo 25 in a 65 gal tank.
  16. So I got back from a week long trip and everythings doing great except for my red dragon. The tips have a little brown stringy algae. I made the mistake of lightly brushing it with a tooth brush, and I think I just made it worse. I got a about a half inch of growth over the past month, but I think the tips either got bleached by high light or the algae got them. Either way the tips are white and seem to be missing flesh and have a tiny bit of brown stringy algae which makes an air bubble or two. The algae is no where else in the tank, I think it only grows on dead things. How can I get this algae off without killing the coral? Do I have to clip off all the tips with it? This sucks, it was growing pretty fast too. Help please.
  17. Thanks for all the advice. I guess I'm leaning towards the asserrors but they look pricey. Any other cool ideas like that. I like a lot of little fish that will stay in the middle/main water column - really makes it look like a reef, or makes it look like there are more fish than there actually are.
  18. Thanks, I didn't know about those options. A pair would be cool, sure a 65 is big enough?
  19. Hmm, any other "center piece" fish ideas for a 65gal then? Are Cherubs the "safest"? What types of sps do you have? My flame loved to nip pocci, digitata, and stylophora.
  20. Wow, thanks for the response. Keep us posted, interested to learn more about it.
  21. Are any dwarf angels truely reef safe? Which kind would be the safest bet or most likely to be reef safe. I had to get rid of my flame angel bc it picked on a few sps. After a few weeks they are thriving again. I have a 65 gal and I want one "main" or center piece fish that would still be reef safe. My biggest fish right now is a clown and I'm under stocked. Anyone have any advice?
  22. I asked a worker/volunteer there about it. He had no idea until I pointed it out, even tho he was giving a talk about the "reef." I wish they posted a sign or some info about it. It was really sad. Hopefully they relocated a bunch or took clippings at least. It was just all purple/red slime pretty much.
  23. I was visiting family in SF and I was excited to see the 200,000 reef at the steinhart aquarium. But almost all their corals were dead or dying. Almost everything was covered in blankets of cyano/purple slime. The only stuff living seems to be a bunch of rbtas, a few montis and some leathers. Anyone know what happened or what they plan on doing about it? Sad to see some many large colonies dead. More like just a big fowlr tank. Tons of cool fish though.
  24. I have my green birdsnest up high, under led evergrows and it grows like a weed.
  25. OK cool, I only have a couple, but I see them every now and then. I like them, they look creepy.
