  2. So I should be ok to start with one of those API Master Test kits right? Then creep into the specific tests for each parameter when I get my cool corals ? Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4
  3. Ill definitely be at the meeting Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4
  4. Sorry, as a mid twenties girl who still lives with mom, I have to get permission for anything I can't fit in my tiny bedroom. That being said, I convinced my mon to let me set up a 46g bowfront in the living room for my oscars! Cheers (or cheets as I've said in the past)!!! Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4
  5. As someone who has rented apartments all over, yes; check with your landlord. They may provide damage coverage although with an extra fee. I know I've always paid pet rent (I made my dog perfom x number of tricks to pay her rent jk) and it covered damage from her. I do recall a lot of aquarium clauses in my lease. Also, I know there are many insurance providers who have special options for aquarium coverages. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4
  6. Wow, lots of suggestions! Here I was gonna just buy the all in one kit... Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4
  7. What test kit or tools would you most recommend? All I have so far is a cheap hydrometer. I want/need something to test my water parameters and was wondering what yall like best:) Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4

  10. So as far as my stock wish list goes: -Pair of clowns (maybe some phantom or Wyoming whites) -anemone (I've got my eye on an acid rain bta) -acro (teal or purple would be nice) -clam (looking for a blue maxima possibly) -variety of zoas -brain coral -a monti maybe? Any fish suggestions are welcome. I am more interested in something to add color. This will be the focal point of my room and I want as many eye catching colors as possible Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4
  11. :( the one at AO has such a personality... makes me want one. I definitely wouldn't get one until I have the space for a huge tank... Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4

  15. Thanks for all the advice everyone! I actually do plan on rinsing and drying again. If I throw a LR in the tub to seed along with all my dry rock, would that be better? Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4
  16. Ahh I see now Looks like I'm gonna need to draw up some plans and try this out! Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4
  17. I apologize if this is a dumb question, but can you explain to me how this works? I would love to do this, just want to understand it better. Water just runs down the baffles and evaporates as it goes, therefore, "chilling" the water? How? (Maybe its just too early in the AM for me to process lol) Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4
  18. Awesome! I'll check it out! Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4
  19. I'm gonna have to convince the bf to let me go to my first frag fest! He's not a member (yet) can he attend as well?? Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4
  20. No biggie. Its part of the hobby unfortunately. Such fragile creatures. I'm either gonna catch another one or invest in an ornamental crayfish in the future Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4
  21. Hello all! First of all, this is my first build thread and my first personal SW build. I've done immense research over the last decade of my life and well, I've always been scared to dive in because of financial availability (and its like Pringles, once you pop you just can't stop). After convincing my bf to use his 46g bowfront and start a SW tank (which was just collecting dust in his basement) and sharing with him was info I had gather, he set up a pretty awesome tank for a noob. I personally funded most of it and it made me feel more confident to start my own. While looking for the perfect tank to fit in my tiny room I went to check out QR, where I met Vince. Right in the front walkway were a stack of these: http://www.jetpetsupplies.com/product_info.php/tank-black-20x10x24-20xh-p-5250 Snagged one for $60 :) *cue angels singing* Small footprint but still a decent size for me. Yay!!! Ok, so far I have the DT, a 10g which I got at Pet Supplies Plus during the $1pg sale. Bought a sheet of Plexiglas from lowes and had it cut to size for $2 and ordered some equipment. Bought some LR off of Craigslist at $2/lb. It was covered in bubble algae so I stuck it in a plastic tub and doused it with bleach and water after scrubbing a majority of the BA off. Changed the water twice (more bleach) and after a week of soaking I found a nice sunny day to lay them all out to dry. Now, the LR is back in the tub with a powerhead running and I poured some Purple Up in there for good measure I will post photos of the sump and DT this weekend. I've got an SCA skimmer on order and I have a chinese 120w LED fixture. Not sure as far as stock list goes. I wish I had room for a bigger tank because I'd love to just get everything haha. If anyone has any recommendations, that'd be great. I would really love to have a clam (maxima or crocea) and as far as corals go Im gonna invest in some nice stuff (super bright colors :D) but haven't decided on specifics. I would love a little bit of everything but I know I'm limited... Things still considering: -A chiller or a diy chiller of some sort. My room gets tropical rainforest hot all year long. -Controller. I'm really into DIYs and I recently stumbled upon some arduino controller threads on other forums. -??? Next step: Monday, drill and plumb DT. Begin cycling if possible. 24. Thanks @Neto I bought two sets of LEDs off of eBay. Some bobo Chinese made 165w. One is running over my freshwater and works nice I'm letting the bf test the other over his sw tank and we'll see how the corals like it. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4
  25. Thanks I'm actually a few blocks down the road from Blue Ribbon Koi :D Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4
