  1. Update! I bought a 9w UV Sterilizer. Just installed it. Fingers crossed!! Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
  2. No worries. This is indeed my first Oscar. I knew the 10g wouldn't last long and I knew I'd be headed towards at least a 40g tank soon (I couldn't help the purchase of him, terrible I know) and I am saving up for a 100g+ by spring time. I know Oscars have unique personalities which is why I got him. I originally had a crayfish and a figure8 puffer. Which had awesome personalities. I am definitely well aware of the larger tank needs which is why I jumped on this deal for the 40b even tho I know Duke was getting ready to give me his old 46g soon. I think you're right about the intense lights. I bought it for my soon to be saltwater tank and decided to test it out. Well I love the light but its definitely too much for my two cichlids. I will be switching back to my ikea LEDs which were much less intense for the small tank. I've kind of just back off of the 10g for now. I think me digging around the tank too much is just making matters worse. I've turned the light off. Let the slight glow of natural light illuminate it during the day and my room light is enough for a few hours at night. I just feed twice a day and hoping to let all the added carbon do its job. 10. Ok. This is getting really annoying. For the past two weeks the water in my 10g Freshwater tank has gotten so cloudy that you can't see thru it. Avg temperature is 78ºF. PH is 7.2, Ammonia is 0ppm, Nitrite is 0ppm, and Nitrate is 20ppm. I change the water about 30% everyweek but because the water has been so mucky I've been doing it twice a week. It runs a Fluval Aquaclear 30 and I change the media once a month. I purchased some Deep Blue Carbon Media Pad and added it above my foam media. Then I added a filter bag full of Acurel carbon. Lights stay on about 8-10hrs a day. Its a clone of the D120s hanging about a foot above the tank. I actually left the lights off the last two days. Gravel vac the substrate... The fish eat all the food... The only things different in the past two weeks is, 1) Added one mystery snail. 2) Started feeding Omega One Super Color Cichlid pellets (small sinking) when I normally feed Fluval medium sinking Cichlid Pellets Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
  11. CHEERS! :D (or in my case "CHEETS") Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
  12. Absolutely, I want to give these guys a proper home. EVENTUALLY they will get a proper 75g+ home but for now I have to settle between the 40breeder or the 46bow. They are very healthy at the moment so its not an emergency. Like I mentioned earlier, my only issue is cloudy water. (Fwiw: I do weekly water changes, vac the substrate, rinse out the Fluval Aquaclear 30, also changing the filter media once a month) I'm thinking I will turn the 40b into the Oscar tank. I will convert the 10g into a wet/dry filter. When I get the 46bow I will begin my freshwater planted. The 20xH will continue as marine as planned. NEXT STEP: Build a stand and canopy for the 40b. 13. My Oscar is about 3.5" right now. Water parameters are normal but I can't seem to clear up the water (its running LEDs about 12 hrs a day and a Fluval Aquaclear 30 which I clean weekly with water changes. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
  14. You can talk to me on Wamas but not in RL? Classy. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
  15. Ok. I just scored a sweet 40 breeder from Aquatic Obsession. Its already drilled. Now. Here are stipulations: - I have a 10g running with a growing Tiger Oscar, female Convict, and a Brittlenose Pleco. Been running great aside from cloudy water for the past 6 months. Looking to give these kids a bigger home. - Supposedly I should be getting a 46 bowfront any day now as well. - Already have a 20xH with a 10g sump I want to make a marine tank... just gotta drill and plumb. - Very interested in setting up a planted freshwater aquarium... DECISIONS DECISIONS! I know yall are mostly marine aquarians but I'd like to get a second opinion... which tank should I use for what? Ready... GO! Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
  16. This only works if your significant other is oblivious to the hobby. In Duke's case: I attempt to finalize on all hobby related "purchases". (Attempts are not always successful... sneaky men) Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
  17. Aww shucks I would have loved a mantis shrimp Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
  18. Welcome! My niece loves to ask about my tanks Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
  19. Duke has been pacing in front of his 125g chanting, "HURRY UP AND CYCLE!" Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
  20. Haha I thought the title of the thread would throw some folks off Tbh, its only a single convict. The only other tankmates are an Oscar and a Pleco. She's been nice and protective of her little nest but sadly no baby daddy to fertilize the eggs..
  21. My convict cichlid laid eggs! Any tips and advice would be appreciated! ! Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
  22. Absolutely. This was before ny discovery of Wamas so while researching online helped, I would ask him for advice on livestock that I really wanted and he would always say yes yes yes buy buy buy it all works. I must admit, everything IS very healthy and clean. Just find it discouraging to realize he is more of an aggressive car salesman than a fish enthusiast. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
  23. Now I do. My first few months in the hobby, I only knew of CA. Now I'd rather drive to QR or IC. BRK is practically behind my house. Thanks to Wamas, now I know! Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
  24. Since I figure Duke won't actually share this, I will, because of numerous terrible experiences with them. I know they don't sponser WAMAS but it is a lfs. The owner is the worst. Basically, most recently, he sold Duke's mom some crayfish. Told her it'd be fine with her Oscars. Duke just had to declaw them because all of the oscars (which range from 2"-5") have wounds from being pinched. "He would have sold her saltwater fish to go with her Oscars" In the past, the owner has given me so much terrible advice. "Oh yea Tiger Barbs will go great with your crayfish! " "Porcupine Puffers will be fine in your community 46g reef tank." "Sure, we put freshwater puffers in with our barbs and crayfish all the time." The guy is a crook, only looking out for his wallet and how much green you can take out of yours. I have shopped there numerous times because they were one of the few places less than an hour away that I was aware of. Hearing about this incident with Dukes mom has gotten me all worked up. Never going there again. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
