  1. I get mine at Tropical Lagoon, since they are close and carry tropic marin pro.
  2. Certainly. I will post a video of the next harvest. Right now I have a mandarin in the system that enjoys them. I have a couple of clowns that I hope will lay some eggs at some point....
  3. Success!! I have harvested 3 rounds of pods and 2 of phyto. The phyto culture crashed the last round (my fault),, but I will be re-starting it this week. Other than that, it requires a little bit of work once a week. It takes me less than 20 mins to harvest and have the next batch ready.
  4. I just started with the Poseidon Copepod system. It comes with 2 phyto starters (Nannochloropsis oculata) and 1 Tisbe (Tisbe biminensis?) copepod starter. Setup was a breeze. Let's see what results do I get.
  5. Working on it. Seems that evaporation may be slower than with an open container, but will keep an eye open on the water level
  6. Hi WAMAS!! I will start next week to grow phyto and pods using the copepod system from Poseidon. Has anyone tried to grow pods either using this system or any other DIY option? What is your experience growing pods?
  7. I was one of the $25 gift card winners at yesterday's WAMAS meeting. As a relatively new reefer, I have found great value in the advice given by Reef eScape staff. The fish look great and the corals are awesome (I just saw a couple of great frags today) which were really hard to pass. Thank you once again for your WAMAS support!!!
  8. The probe that came with an Apex Lite I got from another WAMAS member had to be recalibrated from time to time (~6 months). I first noticed that the difference in the reading between the Apex and the digital display in the Finnex heater changed over time (there was always a discrepancy to start with), so I started checking the temperature in the system with another thermometer (NIST) on maintenance day. It was surprising to find the reading drifting upwards and by doing so, driving the real temperature of the system down by a degree or two in the span of a few months. Since then I have switched to the new Apex and haven't noted any temperature drifts....yet
  9. Can you describe what are you seeing? Is it a film? Any air bubbles? Does it disappear with lights out? What are your parameters, feeding and light schedule? Sorry for all the questions. The important part beyond removal is to figure out why do you have the algae in the first place.
  10. This is a fantastic idea!! I am relatively new to the group but I will be happy to help with this effort.
  11. Thank you all. These are all great recommendations and I will be referring to this thread multiple times. Just a crazy idea that came to mind while reading these posts: Has anyone in the past thought about having a WAMAS "emergency response team"?
  12. Hi all, As I am about to start cycling, I am interesting in knowing how different reefers plan for family vacation. Do you ask a friend, train the neighbor kids or hire a service? What can of instructions do you leave behind? I am trying to plan wayyyy in advance once the system is finally sustaining livestock in it. Thanks.
  13. Thank you all. I changed things a little..
  14. Hi all, Got up early today and decided to open the boxes of Marco Rocks sitting that have been looking at me for a few weeks. This is a Reefer 350 with 75 lbs of rocks. I plan to have a mixed reef with SPS predominance. Given that this is my first attempt for a reef system, I would like your opinions on two different aquascape configurations. Aquascape 1: Aquascape 2: Let me know what you think!!
  15. I was the lucky winner of one of the gift certificates this past weekend. Like a kid in a candy shop, I looked at the all the possibilities in the Avast website and finally decided to get the Spyglass reactor for my Reefer 350. Thank you Avast Marine for your club support. I now have a wish list for the near future.
  16. Hi all, What are your thoughts on plumbing a manifold in the reefer 350 sump area? I have a Vectra M1 and I am thinking on using 1" pipe with reduction tees to 3/4" for the manifold valves. Alternatively I could do 3/4" pipes with reduction to 1/2". What do you think?
  17. Thank you for the instructions. I will give it a try soon and post results.
  18. I noticed it, however, I wonder how well it will adhere to plastic....
  19. Hi all, I got some used AI Hydra 52s. They seem to work but but their colors have changed overtime. As they are no longer white, I was thinking about the possibility of taking them apart and painting the plastic casing with heat resistant paint. Is this a crazy idea? I am concerned about paint flakes getting into the water later in the future. Any suggestions? Thanks
  20. If I get 2 35g containers, I will be able to store around 26% of each saltwater and to/di Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Hi all, I am planning to build a mixing station for a reefer 350 (91g total volume) and a 40g breeder. What would you recommend be an acceptable capacity for a mixing station that would serve these systems needs? I am considering 2 35g water tanks (RO and saltwater), but not sure if this is a good choice or if I should aim for more. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Thank you all for the great advice. I love being part of such an engaging community. It would be great to see some fellow reefers setups to better make an informed decision. I can bring ____________ (fill in the blank: cookies, coffee, beer, wine, etc.)
  23. First of all, that tank looks great!!! The hard part for me is to make a decision between the multiple offers out there based on pictures, low quality youtube videos and "unbiased" reviews. I assume that similarly to looking at a piece of art, the in-person experience is incomparable to seeing something in a screen, and this allows people to decide between one brand or another as they progress in the hobby. I just want to avoid changing equipment as much as possible, but maybe that is just a naive thought .
  24. Thanks epleeds. I am trying to decide between Radion or Kessil.... I feel that I can wait a little more before pulling the trigger to get a better system, instead of buying cheaper lights and loosing money later in the exchange.
  25. Hi all, What is your suggestion for LED driven lights in a Reefer 350 (47"X20") in a mixed tank with SPS predominance? Can you keep SPS corals at 12 inches of depth? I have been looking at multiple sources of information but at this point, but I feel I am missing accounts of personal experience from fellow reefers. Looking forward to read your comments.
