  1. They are really cool looking but I think I'm going to pass on including one in the tank I'm putting together. I would be upset if it managed to eat one of my clowns.
  2. I have researched it a bit and it seems these fish are likely to eat smaller fish. Could one of these eat a full grown ocellaris clown? Neon gobies would probably be dinner if kept with a betta, right? If anyone has some experience with these awsome looking fish and their eating habits I'd appreciate your input.
  3. Yeah but the more expensive collected fish get the more likely breeders will attempt it. Maybe one day fish will be like reptiles, where basically everything can be aquired cb.
  4. So I have been planning to put a frag system on the second floor and was realizing that it might be too big. The plan is a 40b and a 20l with a 29 sump and a 10 gallon top off. There will probably be 30 lbs of rock and the tanks will only be 50-75% full. Think this set up would be too heavy? Or would it be ok if its set up on a load bearing wall? Just like to hear what you guys think. Thx
  5. I researched this a bit. I'm pretty sure with a saltwater fishing license you can take 20 animals a day, 5 of any single species. There is a 2 day possesion limit (so 40, 10 of any species). Each polyp of zoanthids counts towards the total and you can also take ricordia. The florida dnr or whatever spells it out pretty clear on what you can and can't take and how much. Also make sure where ever you do your collection isn't a protected area. Also def. No hard coral or live rock, and there can't be any live rock connected to what you collect and you can't destroy live rock to collect anything. Oh yeah you also can't sell or trade whatever you collect.
  6. I went to the Annapolis mall the other day. There was way less fish than I remember seeing the last couple times, but at least there wasn't any dead ones rotting at the bottom.Either way I'm not a fan of those cylinder tanks anyway... curved glass is a pain lol. Also when did this mall offically change into a like ritzy/hipster mall? I was there on a friday evening and there wasn't a bunch of wasted teenagers...wth... maybe I was there to early...
  7. I had actually come across puerto rican law 147, though through an onoffical translation. In what I read it said it outlawed collections of the hydrozoa class which produce a calcium carbonate skeleton (which I thought would exclude zoanthids) Either way I suppose the spirit of the law would be to prevent the collection of basically anything that appears as coral, so I guess the only collection I ever do will be a couple softie frags in florida. Also is it legal to take coral skeletons that have washed up on the beach? What about shells? On an unrelated note I keep seeing referances to black coral, which I am not really familiar with. Is it available in the hobby in any way? (Yes I know collection of it is illegal and have no intent of doing so.)
  8. Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I'm at the airport now hoping someone doesn't show up. I work for an airline so I can fly for free but at a low priority (a couple checked bags cost me my seat lol) Luckily tomorrow is wide open and I didn't book a room for tonight anyway.
  9. Thanks for the suggestions Neto. Just to make it clear I will only do this if/when I can confirm that it is legal. I am not going to risk a huge fine or time in jail for a frag or two. BTW Neto, anything in PR you would suggest doing/seeing?
  10. Thanks for the advice. Also I didn't think I had to go through customs to go to/from puerto rico ( I have no idea, if I end up going this would bethe first time I have left the mainland USA.) Heh since I waited til 3 days before I want to leave to start making plans it kinda put me in a bind, might have to scrap the plans for collection on this trip. (or maybe I'll just go to florida, lol)
  11. I have been looking around the net but havn't really seen anything about it. I know taking hard corals would be super illegal ... but can't seem to find specifics on zoanthids or soft corals. I am considering a trip there this weekend (flight benefits ftw) and I thought it would be cool to bring some polyps back, but only if I can do it legally. My research leads me to believe some fish collection would be alright with a non resident fishing license and I think some inverts too. Anyone have any idea? I will probably end up giving thier DNR a call to see what they say. (I will wait to call when I have a fluent spanish speaking friend handy, just incase) heh thanks for reading : )
  12. Personally I would suggest no for the store front. Imo it would end up costing you more than you would see in increased sales. I Think in this current economy it would be prudent to keep overheads as low as possible to remain competative.. Just my 2 cents.
  13. P. Hepatus is the species I want to keep. Thats awsome if the 6 footer would be good for it. I have been looking around on live aquaria to decide on a stock list and they suggest 180+.
  14. If I got a particularly small blue tang how long could it live in a 125 gallon tank before it would need a larger tank. It will probably be around 2 years before I could upgrade. I just really have no idea how fast they grow, I've only kept a saltwater tank for about 5 months and only had fish for about 2 months. Thanks
  15. I think its just the aqueon tanks. My local one just had 10, 20l, 40b and 20h I think.
