  1. Still with the lumenmax elites on the 90 gallon. I have a lumenbright mini on a 40 breeder and a lumenbright large on a 70 cube. I really like the lumenbright large stealth for the price. When I finally upgrade to a large tank, I will do lumenmax elites or large lumenbrights. The lumenmax elites have more spread so they would be better if they are close to the water surface. The lumenbright are more focused, they'd be better 18-24" off the surface.
  2. you could look at a reeflo on a closed loop. some of the newer pumps have some serious output for rather low power consumption.
  3. get the lawnmower blennie. Not the prettiest fish.. but he will work all day long for free!
  4. That tanks an incredible size for $5k though. Too bad it's not in great shape. Must weight a ton.
  5. Reflectors definitely make a massive differece. I ran an aquaspacelight 2x250 when I first set up my 90 years ago. I couldn' get any par output over 300 near the top. When I went to lumenmax elites PAR is around 800 near the top. Oddly, once the corals adjusted, the colors weren't any diferent. But I did get alot more light on the bottom to support denser growth. For anyone running nice MH bulbs in old reflectors... upgrade! you are throwing money out the window.
  6. After you explain you're running it to keep your pets alive, if they can't see that as justification, then too bad. Let the cops come. They probably wouldn't even show up... I'm sure they are too busy dealing with safety issues and peoples health to deal with a noise complaint.
  7. Finally got one phase of power back after 36+ hours. Fortunately the tanks are on that phase. Hopefully the other phase gets turned back on so the AC kicks on. Vortech back up only lasted for about 4 hours for 2 MP40s. Inverters running off 2 deep cycle marine optima batteries kept the vortechs and other powerheads going through out the night. In the morning I picked up gas and ice and hooked up my small inverter generator to run the controller, main circulation pump, powerheads, two part doser and fans. Ice helped knock the temp down when the fans weren't cutting it. Hopefully nothing is too negatively effected. I was able to keep the temp between 78 and 80, but did notice a bit of an alk swing due to the two part doser being off for about 12 hours. Very glad I invested in a few forms of power outage equipment. I can lend out my 2kW generator to anyone that is in desperate need as long as my power stays on.
  8. Look for some threads about radiums by paulerik on rc. He explains it the best. For the 250Ws get an m80 magnetic ballast. I have always used blue wave 3 or 7s. Get a used blue wave 3 and put the radium in a lumenbright large. I am running this on a 70 cube... You'll be pleased.
  9. that's pretty impressive that you just aquacultured sun corals. job well done.
  10. have you had any alk or temp swings. those first two corals look stressed, but not bleached. any other changes? i wouldn't change your feeding regimen, sps won't go from healthy to starving in two weeks.
  11. I use UV. But I think you need to overkill the mfg recommended wattage to be effective. I have seen good effects from it without any downside. I will always use it. I am personally a believer of not treating ich by removing fish to a quarantine tank. I have lost fish this way, it is very stressful and unnatural for the fish. Especially if all your fish in your tank have it. Throw on a UV sterilizer, make sure you have good food (I like New Life Spectrum w/ garlic). If the fish are eating and in a healthy environment they will naturally fight off ich.
