  1. So these guys haven't started getting too out of hand yet, but I kind of want to nip them in the bud before they spread. What can I do to get rid of them now? I've read that some dwarf angels may eat them, but some/most are threats to coral too... I also read that post about the "zapper" but I'm not very good with my hands or DIY stuff so I'm nervous about making or using that?
  2. Looking good so far, and welcome to WAMAS. It's great to see everything coming together.
  3. Thanks everyone! Yeah, we're still cleaning some. I really like the two towers look, there's a lot of rock, but there's still kind of an open look to it. Hm, I think you're right. And they looked so pretty. Do you know if Aiptasia-X will work on them? Because I still have some left from when I dealt with an aiptasia outbreak.
  4. Wow, looks nasty. I don't have experience with this but it sounds like he should pull through. Keeping my fingers crossed.
  5. Whew, got everything off. Pictures are up in the tank thread
  6. I got this tank (for free!) from a neighbor, and it has been a ride. It's about 65 Gallons (250 liters), with two Koralia powerheads on either side, and two return pumps coming from the back. It has six T5 bulbs, which are as of now 3 whites and 3 actinics, but I was thinking about replacing some of the whites with either AquaBlue Plus blubs or the AquaBlue Special bulbs. The live rock set up is kind of two mounds on either side with a bridge connecting them, and a small island in front. Chad helped me transfer the 46 BF to this, and here are the results. Now cleared up this morning, after the whole foggy glass fiasco. The left "tower" The right "tower"
  7. Got it, thanks. I just tried cleaning the sides with a razor blade and that got it off. When it came off, it was powdery. The previous owner used kalk, so it could be that, or as Coral Hind said, sand or salt.
  8. So I got a perfectly good Red Sea Max 65 Gallon, which was set up yesterday (Thank you Chad!) All was well...until this morning. I wake up to find that the glass is all fogged up. It's weird though, it's not completely foggy, it's kind of in a pattern. It might be scratches, but I'm iffy to say that since I didn't notice it before it was filled and I've heard glass scratches are so hard to get out. I would include pics, but as of now I'm having trouble with the image uploader...
  9. I haven't had experience with anthias, but it seems as if the aggressiveness might be distributed enough between the 3 anthias from the 6 line that there wouldn't be too much of a problem with a single anthia.
  10. In my opinion/experience, it hasn't been so much the type of fish, as my 6 line got along fine with my neon gobies, it's been more any fish that came along after the 6 line was continuously harassed.
  11. Bump. Anyone? Remember, there will be little pieces that can be given away if you help.
  12. Just echoing other people's sentiments here: Six Lines are nice fish, and can take care of bristleworms well, but in my opinion, are probably up with the damselfishes in terms of aggressiveness. My 6 Line has harassed a blenny and a flasher wrasse, both considerably larger than the 6 line, into jumping for it. The specific name does't come to mind, but the wrasse Jan mentioned and I think a few other wrasses will eat bristleworms, and most of these have much better temperaments. EDIT: Nevermind, those were the ones I was thinking of. And yet another edit: I've read that smaller sand perches will eat bristleworms, as well as smaller mantis shrimps, but also some smaller beneficial inverts.
  13. First it'll just be live rock in the bathtub, then a whole 2nd tank Looks good, do you have any plans on what livestock you're going to keep?
  14. Thanks for the tip, we just got an ATO (I think a Tsunami AT1) Right now notwithstanding weather or other factors, we're probably going to do the switch thursday sometimes mid to late afternoon. PM me if you're free and interested. Thanks
  15. We can probably see better during the day, but anytime is most likely fine.
  16. Thanks everyone, right now we're looking at probably transferring the tanks on the 29th or 30th. Still have to cycle some more rock and run the tank to make sure everything's working. Thanks for the tip, we're going out to get one tomorrow.
  17. Our neighbor gave us a Red Sea Max 250 (About 65 Gallons) for free, and we are in the process of cleaning it and making salt water. I was wondering if anyone would care to help us transfer from the old tank to the new tank. We would be willing to give out possible goodies from the 46 BF, or frags from the new tank once it is established.
  18. Well, you could get a catalina goby or another cold water fish. It's not so much as they're not reef safe as you can't really keep many corals in that temperature, at least in my experience. And maybe a dwarf angelfish or a frogfish. Though frogfish might be reef-safe...
  19. +1 I can't say enough good things about these books. And yes, patience is a virtue in this hobby.
  20. Looks like a nice setup so far. Just thinking about the flasher wrasses, they're beautiful, but they swim around a lot in my experience and may run out of swimming room in a tank of that size, unless it's going the be the absolute ONLY fish, and even then, I would be cautious. EDIT: I looked flasher wrasses up again, and it should be fine as long as its about the only fish in the tank.
  21. An H-mart or other asian grocery store is a great place to get fish food in my opinion. They have cheap nori for your herbivores and frozen shrimp, calamari, cuttlefish, etc. that the fish (and anemone) just devour in my tank.
  22. We have the same pump that came with it. Same type that is. We had to replace it once already. We've been trying. I'm not quite sure what the problem is. I'll try to get a pic of it tonight, though it's kind of hard to see anything in that small a sump. I'll look into that, thanks. I'm not quite sure what you mean here. By airline tubing do you mean the white tube that sticks out on the side of the skimmmer?
  23. We have an ASM Mini-G skimmer for the 46 BF. It's broken before, we replaced the pump and it started working. Now it broke again. I tried cleaning the impeller wheel, and the pump is working I think, but the protein skimmer still isn't. While I try to find a way to fix it, does anyone know what's wrong? Also, are there any other good brands of protein skimmer out there that would fit in a relatively small sump or HOB?
  24. I'd still wait, but you might want to watch the Sixline too. It won't eat the goby, but the sixline may pick on the goby mercilessly, depending on how long the sixline has been there.
  25. I would still wait it out for a few more days. Fish can disappear for days into the tank while they're learning their way around, exploring, etc. Different fish, but when I put my flasher wrasse in my tank, he was gone for quite a few days before I found him swimming around normally. What other livestock do you have?
