Collegeman's Final Tank 125 Gallons
collegeman replied to collegeman's topic in Dedicated Tank (Build) Forum
Thanks for the complements everyone. I have a sulfur reactor which keeps the nitrates very low. Without it I was doing very large water changes often. I am able to feed the tank however much I want now. -
After moving around 1.5 years ago I knew I wanted a new tank. I upgraded my 80 gallon shallow reef to a standard 120. I was happy for a few months but realize it wasn't the right tank for me. A few months later I got a 125. I think this will be my final tank. It was originally going to be a fowlr but I decided i will add a few soft corals and macroalgae. Equipment- 6ft 125 gallon tank, 75 gallon sump, custom built stand, IT2080 led light, tunze and wp25 powerhead, sulfur reactor, 2 heaters, reef octopus skimmer and a mag 5 return pump. Maintenance- clean filter sock 1-2 times a week, 30 gallon water change every 1-2 months. The sulfur reactor keep nitrates between 0-10.

Nice looking tank and welcome. -
He was honest and told me he did not try to feed the eel I wanted. However, it ate the next day. Here is a picture of the eel

A few weeks ago I purchased a golden tail eel from Divertom. I was a littler nervous since I didn't know much about the company. I took the risk and it was worth it. He usually responds to emails within a few minutes and will send pictures of the actual item that you are getting. His prices are great and the eel I received is extremely healthy. I will be ordering from him again in the future.

He usually hangs out near the entrance of a cave. I catch him exploring the tank often. I only had him in the tank for 4 days but he was out most of the time in qt. -

Added a striped Squirrelfish to the 80. I really like this fish It's bold and has great color. On a bad note my blue cespitularia colony decided to melt. I still have two frags of it that are doing good. -
I have to agree with everyone. I really like the scape.

Here is a picture of my FOWLR. It does not look like much. It currently has skeletor eel, some damsels. lawnmower blenny and dottyback. I added some caulerpa algae this morning.Hopefully the algae will take over. I might add more rock in the future. -

Thanks. I guess it will be a bad idea since my tank is on the smaller size. -

Has anyone mixed hamlets or added two of the same kind? I know they have both male and female reproductive organs. Does it make it harder or easier to have a pair? I known many of you dive. Do you see them more often in pairs or alone? Thanks in advance. -

I really like the hamlet. It is a shy fish but will eat small fish. I read that they lose their color in captivity but experienced the opposite. I never heard it grunt. -

The file has been great. He does not bother any of the corals. I found the fantail file to be a very easy fish. It was eating pellets minutes after being removed from the shipping bag. I had another in qt that did not make it. It had some type of disease that I could not treat. -
I figured it was time to make a build thread for my 80-gallon deep blue mixed reef. I will also include pictures of my 40 breeder FOWLR. The 80 was setup for over a year before taking it down in April in preparation for a move. All livestock was moved into holding tanks before finally setting the tank backup in July. I almost lost all livestock between our move and renovating our home. My initial plan was to only stock the tank with soft coral. After setting up the tank, I received and purchased some SPS frags from various members. I now have almost all the livestock that I desire and the tank is doing very good. I plan to add one more Fantail File and maybe one or two more corals. Maintenance: 10% weekly waterchange Listed below is most of the equipment and livestock. EQUIPMENT: 80 Gallon Deep blue 48x24x16 Reef octopus 110 Eshopps PF-300 Jeabo wp-25 Tunze 6045 Evergrow IT2080 Marineland return pump DIY stand LIVESTOCK: Fantail Filefish Indigo Hamlet Yellow Tang Maroon Clown pair Yellow Wrasse pair Potters Angel Richmond Wrasse Yellowtail Damsel Banggai Cardinal Hawaiian Golden Dwarf Eel

I think you would love the deep blue 80. I currently have one and I love it. I had tanks ranging from 3 gallons all the way up to 180 gallons and this is by far the best tank I ever owned. I will hopefully start a build thread today.

Have you tried ultra algae x? I had Dino for a while. I tried everything including blackouts, large water changes, peroxide, no water changes, and GFO. I did followed the directions and treated the maximum amount of time and they have been gone for a few months. The ultra algae x was my last option before getting rid of the tank.
