Bubble King Supermarin 200 vs ATB 1050a
GraffitiSpotCorals replied to ridetheducati's topic in General Discussion
I am using a bk 300 with the two red dragon pumps. The small pump went bad so I am going to put a cheaper pump on it. It is a beautiful skimmer for sure and well made. I like the bubble plate and cone inside, it really handles a lot of bubbles and flow through it. I wonder how much better/nicer the controllable pump is though. For the price, I am not sure how much better the bubbleking performs compared to other skimmers. I am running a 4' 12" wide euro reef with three large ehiems and 3 Mazzei injectors which pulls twice as much as the bk. But the bk is still doing its job well and skimming constantly. I definatly have enough in the water to have both running very well, which is somewhat of a surprise for my water volume. I haven't used or seen an atb skimmer so I couldn't chime in on that. -
Get the mp40qd, it's silent and moves a good amount of water without having spots of harsh linear water movement. They last forever and I doubt you would be unhappy at any point. The controllability is so much better than the gyre. Plus the gyre reverse mode is weak. The jebo pumps don't hold their power well and don't move as much water. With all that lps I think the mp40 would be perfect with the jebo pump.

Awesome update! Our tanks are at very similar points now. I am using aquaforrest as well. How are you running the zeo mix? How much potassium do you have to dose daily? Do you notice a difference when using their (or any) bacteria supplement? We're you using vodka and vinegar before you switched to aquaforrest? If so how did you make the switch? I am currently using a mix of the three even though they say not to. I would guess that's because they can't make money from vodka and vinegar. I am going to order some salifert potassium tests from china soon if you want to throw down and get some on my order, they are pretty cheap. My corals have also benefited from maganese and potassium especially now that the tanks adjusted to a high amount of carbon sources. I wish our experience with Brendan went anywhere near well. In the end of the long horrible experience our tanks crashed because we never got the skimmer we paid for and it was like a row of dominos after that. Thank god the bank got our money back eventually. I will be making my own stuff from now on. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk -
I hate my iPhone pics...my corals deserve better!!

Unedited, just threw the camera in a dirty viewer. Not much to it. Turn down the blues with LEDs and no problems. I do love taking some nice macros with a DSLR though. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk -

Dude, what's up with the tank? How are things coming along? What is your husbandry like now? Still carbon dosing with no zeolite? Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk -
I would worry about the corners and edges not being supported. Especially if the sides do not sit on top of the bottom glass like the picture. All that would be holding the side glass is the silicone. I like to weld a steel stand and leave a .25" space for acrylic skin. Then use magnets tohold the acrylic to the stand. Under higher light the green isn't as pronounced. First pic looks like it to me. From the side most torts look very similar. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

davelin315's 300 Gallon In Wall Reef Tank

I think starting over will be good for you, just take it slow so you can enjoy it -
+1 m80s are the best. Do a. single ended with a nice small reflector if its a small tank. I would use radiums but that's just me. Most bulbs will give decent results, some are just better in certain areas of coral color or growth. Plus the lenght of time they take to diminish in par. Borrow some bulbs from folks. I have some 14k ushios you can have, I think. The only ushios I have used are the 10 and 14 so in imagine their 20 would be pretty white, never seen one. I am not big on double ended bulbs unless it's a space issue where your packing a lot of supplements around them.

I need to build my water mixing station. I could order online but getting one and setup this weekend is key. The tractor supply in Manassas doesn't have much. I need to set one up asap to make room for my skimmer. Any place in northern VA or southern Maryland that has options around the 100 gallon size? Also any certain brands or kinds to stay away from?

I did this same thing with my old nwb 200, but used the new smaller pump because I couldn't get a bubble blaster. Still runs great. Its all about the pump and neck size really. Skimmer bodies don't matter except for the water volume, processing, and ability to keep microbubbles out. Shape makes no difference to me. Except cones make it easier to tune and make the less finiky.

With 4 fish, three being small, I would make sure the skimmer has a small neck. A light bioload is not going to work well with a big skimmer if it has a 5+" neck. I would think any skimmer would work well, just find one that uses parts that are easy to get and are very reliable. If your keeping a small bioload I wouldn't oversize much. Paying a lot doesn't always mean you are getting the best skimmer for your tank.

Depends on how heavily stocked the tank is.

Maxspect Gyre experiences?
GraffitiSpotCorals replied to Reefer_Madness's topic in General Discussion
Yea they are prone to small objects getting stuck. I don't like it either. The new qd we were able to afford finally and they are amazing. My gyre is not even being used at the moment but I would like to add it to my frag tank. We will see how it runs in there maybe.
