  1. I stored my recalled bottle on its side after it was opened and it was a mess. My alk was MUCH lower than the meter was reading and my sps were losing color and receding. I assumed it was a different issue because my alk reading was fine.

I ordered 2 new bottles and threw out both the opened bottle and the unopened bottle. Waiting on new ones to arrive.

  2. Mark your calendar! The Winter / Annual meeting is February 20th.

The businesses who sponsor WAMAS play an important role in supporting our club and donate most of the items that are raffled off at each meeting.

Here is a list of upcoming raffle items!

  3. It's normal for the skimmer to freak out like that on a new sock.

You don't need to do a water change, but you should rinse all new filter socks first.

The skimmer should settle down soon. If it doesn't, remove the sock, rinse it thoroughly and try again.

  4. I also think it depends on where your nutrient levels are. If you are fighting algae and have nitrates through the roof you might try rinsing while you figure out where the problem is and then once things are under control, stop.

If your phosphate and nitrates are under control or 0, then I think they serve a purpose in feeding the tank.

But yeah, there are no "rules" only suggestions from the most recent awesome tank you've seen.
