  1.

I am looking to add some fish to my relatively peaceful 250g. I currently have 10 fish.

3 small tangs (Scopas, Kole, and a small powder blue).

    1 large rabbitfish,

    2 clownfish

    1 filefish

    1 algae blenny

    1 flasher wrasse

1 mean female lyre tail anthias

Where are people buying their fish from these days?

  2. Yeah that's what I am going to do. I'm going to start with the MP60 on the back wall, see if I can get it to bounce off the front and lift up the debris on the bottom front. I'm going to reposition the MP40 on the side so that it is a little forward of the rock piles. When I have some more cash, I'll add another MP40 to the other end and see what I get!

I'll let you know what happens. Thanks for the help.

  3. I am in the process of upgrading my homeowners insurance. I was VASTLY underinsured. (Make sure your policy is up to date people!)

My question is this: Does anyone have additional insurance for their aquarium?

(Mods please move if not suitable for general discussion)

  4. So glad everything looks good Isaac. Keep me in mind if you ever need help.

What is a deep cell marine battery?

My power was out for 9 hours yesterday. I have 2 battery bubblers and I use a tiny portable generator to run a single powerhead for water movement. Everything is looking ok today.

  5. Yeah, I was breeding them for a while too but the supply was too low for the amount of upkeep.

Thanks for the lead on House of Tropicals in case I ever run short. I am going to freeze some of mine to try and switch the CBB's over to frozen.

  6. I have a reef link. My issue is that the darn thing never stays connected!

I have 1 MP40 (old not programmable) I am going to put on one side and I was thinking of putting the Mp60 on the back. Do you think I should try the side instead?

Also, what about the rockwogk blocking flow from the sides? How does a large pile of rock just 14 inches from the source affect the flow? All the photos and simulations show the flow / gyres in empty tanks, which I find pretty useless. We need to know the best placement with real stuff in the way since that is what most of us have. I don't want to point it directly at the rocks cause I want to run it high to create a lot of flow.

  7. Is anyone else feeding black worms?

I have 2 CBB that I am feeding live black worms. Hoping to switch them over to frozen as time goes on.

I've been getting 1/8 lb of worms every 2 weeks from Eastern Aquatics. Exceptional quality and customer service .

  8. Wow! Thats a lot of flow!  Obviously mine is lacking.

Thanks for the photo of your setup. It looks awesome. I can't wait for it to grow in.

I'm definitely going to put something on the back to blow forward.

  9. I am looking for suggestions to increase the flow in 250g bare bottom tank. The tank is 5.5 ft x 3 ft x 26".

I have gone through many configurations which have always failed to keep most of the detritus suspended. I need to make improvements.

I currently have 2 Maxspect gyre XF280's on the back wall. One bottom left, one bottom right. They do a good job of keeping most of the detritus off of the bottom, except that they push everything to the front where is mostly just sits there. I also have a small gyre, an Mp40 and Tunze that I kind of move around to assist, but I would love to add some thing to help get a significant portion of the remaining detritus into the water column for removal.

    Suggestions?

  10. Yeah, I do large water changes about once a month (100g) and I just find it easier to make adjustments in the tank. Why do it all twice? I guess the answer is I’m lazy. I also have a large water volume so I dont think the discrepancies make that big of a difference. Especially if I correct them within an hour or two.

  11. I've used reef crystals and regular IO and I never get what is advertised. Salinity and Alk are almost always low.  I have made it a habit to mix up the saltwater, do my water change, measure and adjust salinity, alk and calcium. Once I know my tank water is where I want it I dose as usual and do it all again with the next water change.
