Really? I've never been there this is a perfect reason, fantastic!

Hey guys, I've only got a handful of minor supplies remaining to pick up for my build. Are there any local places that sell these black 3/4'' loc lines and accessories?

For the most part everyone on here seems to have some sort of QT system, what are some quick and easy steps to setting one up?
-
Actually, Data Centers managed to stay on the grid 99% of the time, if they can do it so can a Coral Bank if it wanted to invest in that. Like I said, this isn't a completely thought out, all aspects covered, fool proof plan. This is just a basic idea. All business assume some level of liability, if they didn't, everyone would own a business and profit.
-
You would if someone was paying you for it as a business. I give my bank money that they'd love to keep and invest, but at the end of the day I decide if they keep it or not. Nope, which is why I would only put frags in the system. As for QT, I figure a business would be able to cut down the costs dramatically because they would be dealing with such volume. Also, considering it would basically the be the business, I imagine they would be far better suited to deal with any QT issues and so yeah, it the business was setup by a good individual in good standing who had a firm grasp of the hobby I may in fact trust them over myself; I after all don't have a business on the line. Yeah, but we've all heard stories of people never getting those corals back. Generally speaking people put those in their displays which may not be rigged best for growth but rather for viewing. A coral bank would be setup just for growing and would be less concerned with the display of the pieces.

I think about 2 years ago I was talking with Tonkadawg about an idea and I don't think I've ever seen one around. Just curious why no one has jumped on it. Basically, you rent space in a top notch grow out tank with the best of the best and you get to put corals there. Everything is treated in QT and taken care of it for the fees you pay. But you have the insurance that if you tank goes south you can go withdraw from the "bank" The catch would be that to some degree the bank would not be responsible for corals that keep the bucket for unknown reason. But if they fudge it up and kill off the tank, they're held responsible to a degree. I was thinking about it again recently as I've seen some really fantastic pieces I'd love to purchase, but since my tank won't be setup till Sunday and still needs to cycle, I can't benefit from the good deals. But if I had the option to pay a fee and have someone grow the coral out while I waited, well that would be fantastic. Theres no kind of business data behind this, I haven't done a cost analysis or any of that. I'm just wondering what others think of the idea. Edit: Cleaning up some grammar and spelin' arrers.

I've always been fascinated by the relationship some Gobies share with shrimp and I'd like to see that in my new tank, but I'm no fan of a DSB. What are the requirements to house these guys? I'm going to have pretty heavy flow (~58% turn over) so I'm not sure if they'll even be suitable or perhaps they'll seek out a dead zone and setup shop? Is it possible to get away with 1-2'' of sand, more like towards 1''? And lastly, which pairs do you recommend?

Have you used these? What did you think about them? I've got an old JBJ 12 laying around that might be fun to start up sometime, these would be perfect.

This really is an awesome story. Have you found anymore information? What caused the hernia? Still neato! -
Where do buy mini carpets
SeanCallan replied to jason the filter freak's topic in General Discussion
Find someone who has one and ask them to split it. The mini carpets are really good at being split and propagated. Just feeding them daily can usually be enough to split them, if not a razor blade works. -

I did a quick search on Nano Reef and I didn't see anything for sale. If you glance over the posts you'll see that most people got their minis either from another reefer or http://www.fragglereef.com/ May be worth a shot, I paid $10 for mine looked like this: Atlantis had a red mini : "ON SALE" Mini Red Carpet Anemone ($120) OUT OF STOCK http://store.atlantisaquarium.net/inv004.html -

Theres a guy on RC and Nano Reefs that used to sell them pretty cheap, I picked some up back in college for my nano. After work I'll see if I can find the posts but you may be able to search and find them sooner. -
I see a lot of people recommending; Magnesium, Silicate, and Strontium though I've never tested any of these three. Went ahead and picked up new kits to get myself ready for my new tank. I have some old kits but I'd rather start fresh and not worry about them being close to their shelf life. http://www.reefgeek.com/product/Marine_Adv...Kit_by_Salifert Performs: 100-200 alkalinity, 50 ammonia, 50 copper, 50 nitrate, 50 nitrite, and 50 pH tests. http://www.reefgeek.com/product/Reef_Basic...Kit_by_Salifert Performs: 50 calcium, 40 iodine, and 60 phosphate tests. I think I've got all my angles covered. Does anyone test for Mag, Silicate, and some of the other less frequently mentioned kits?
-
This isn't so much about the brand of the test kit but rather which test kits you keep around. I primarily use Salifert kits: Calcium Ammonia Nitrite Nitrates Phosphates pH What do most members keep around? Do you prefer to have an LFS test your water?

Thanks Bob, I wish I had known which adapter it was before I ordered. Oh well, at least AWI is super fast when it comes to shipping! Edit: Actually, I'll try to find this piece at a local store. It's going to cost me double to have this tiny valve shipped.
-
Thanks guys! I received my package quickly, much appreciated. I did have a question, I received 2 supply valves, but I really needed something for my braided tubes. I went to my local Lowes where they claim there is no such part. Can you point me in the right direction to order one?

Yeah, if I could eliminate an unnecessary piece of equipment I would most definitely reposition those funds for the collection of SPS I have my eyes on. Right I'm debating running this UV unit, it's 25W on my 80 gallon system and it's almost as long as my sump. It may be a little overkill.
-
I plan on running carbon already and I have a UV unit from yauger but its awful big. I'm getting all kinds of mixed input on what to run. I plan to have a very small number of fish which is why a number of folks have dissuaded me from using UV (which they say is better for fish tanks). I was unaware that UV + Carbon was roughly the equivalent of Ozone.

From what I've been told the Tunze 9010 has a port for Ozone on it, so I'm assuming it can handle it. I'll do some further research. As for being old school, that's very much news to me. I guess Zeovit is "new" ?
-
Hey Guys, The last thing I have remaining to purchase before my tank is completed is my ozone, anyone have any suggestion as to who makes the best and which would be best suited for my 80g setup? I plan to have the ozone connect to the skimmer (Tunze 9010) intake, thoughts? Thanks! Sean

I've decided to go ahead and begin detailing my current build! Display Dimensions : 30 x 34 x 20 Sump Dimensions : 30 x 34 x 16 Stand : Steel (black) Builder : NAGA This tank is going to be exclusively SPS and I wanted a really clean look and to minimize the amount of equipment visible. Theres a 4'' false wall that will enable me to put the tank flush to the wall while hiding all the plumbing. Lighting : 1 Giesemann Nova II 250W - I can add another one if I need more spread as the tank matures The tank will return approximately 400GPH from the sump. It will feature 2 separate closed loops. Closed Loop 1 (rear wall): ReeFlo Dart (3600GPH) @ 0' feet 4 3/4'' returns Electronic ball valve Closed Look 2 (front bottom): Ehiem 1262 (900GPH) 2 3/4'' returns SCWD The second loop will run whenever the lights are on, this way I can ensure that the fish have adequate places to retreat to at night without too much current. KNOP-C Calcium Reactor Tunze 9010 Skimmer Typhoon III RO/DI I'll also be using 2 part in my top off. Top: Side: Front: More to come as I get the tank delivered and plumbed! (The holes are approximations, the drilling will take place on delivery and is subject to change)

WOW! Awesome video. It's neat the kind of things you find in the ocean.
-
Not sure how much of a fix it is, but a fan may be enough to push the evap away from going directly to your lights. I'm not familiar with your tank, but is there a chance you're over lighting it and heating the water enough to have excessive evaporation? Again, a fan may be one of the cheapest solutions you can try, but it's definitely not a sure thing. This is just my personal uninformed opinion, so be warned.
