  1. Chris, Quick question. From what I see on that skimmate you get very dark liquid but seems pretty thin. My skimmer pulls a lot of thick junk, I am talking green mud. I am running mine fairly dry but I was wondering what is it that you look for in the skimmate, dark fluid or denser mud like stuff? I clean mine with a rubber spatula (stole it from my wife kitchen drawer) and I take about 4 to 5 oz of mud every week. The liquid that remains in the collection cup looks a dark green, but it is translucent not as dark as what I can see in your picture. Thanks for the pictures, it is cool to see those monsters in action. What about this beast: BK Royal Exclusive 650
  2. Solenoid: BRK has them. I got two from him cheaper than I could find online. And they are the 120v type that close when not powered. If BRK doesn't have any you can try www.autotopoff.com
  3. How big is it? Ill take it if is not huge!
  4. You can use this Calculator. It is recommended to increase it slowly, like everything in your tank. I remember seeing one for BRS Mag but I cant find the link.
  5. Now that you mention it I remember seeing it. Will a 1/4 circle change much the dynamics of the water movement? I just feel that 1/4 will have the vortechs facing the opposite front corner and will only reach corals as a rebound, I wouldn't mind "testing" one.
  6. I like the concept of the vortechs!! But i appreciate that my internal tunzes are virtually silent. If I could get the vortechs for $200 or less I wouldn't think about it... but I still think they are overpriced. Anyway, how would a MP40 perform in a 92gal corner tank?
  7. Any noticeable noise from the pump?
  8. I would advice against it David. They will surely die and then you will have a pretty messy chemical issue in your water. Not worth the effort. I found this post on another site, talkingreef.com Original author: JustDavidP
  9. Almon, you are welcome to borrow my cordless Dremel. I have no idea where to begin trying to frag a brain but if you need the tool let me know.
  10. Thanks for the reviews sde219!!! If I am ever in Richmond I will definitely go to Fish World. I can always drop the wife at IKEA and keep going south....
  11. Can the same be true for Zoas? Do they thrive in higher salinity? I keep mine at 1.024 and SPS like it, but my zoas (at least some of them) are slowly melting. Maybe a should gradually increase to 1.026
  12. Litermeter owners. A couple of years ago I bought the LiterMeter Top-Off control Module. I didn't know what I was buying and I thought that was all I needed to do ATO. I still have it, brand new, never used. If anyone needs/wants it please PM me. (Mods, not meant as a sale post just thought it was a good place to post it. If I am wrong please remove the post and I can post it in the members only WTS section)
  13. You are welcome. I hope it also helps other folks. Maybe we should put together a tutorial for things like this, pictures, albums, links, etc... and make it a sticky.
  14. If he got the purple pinwheel from ATB its supposed to perform as well as the mesh but without the headache of failed start ups, unbalance/noise pumps, and constant maintenance. I have the mesh wheels for both of my sicce 2500 and I still went for the original pin wheel as it performs great.
  15. Also make sure your email is not treating wamas' emails like spam.... just in case

    Bio Cube

Jason, Take your time, research this hobby for a few months, take a look at other people's setups, collect as much info as you can. Figure out your budget... saltwater tanks are very expensive, and even more expensive if you start off with avg equipment (because you will end up buying the better stuff later on to be able to keep a thriving tank). Once you have the knowledge and the understanding of things such as: kalkwasser reactor, sump, refugium, LR, strontium, QT, skimmer, ozone, return, overflow, metal Halide, T5, etc..., and you know exactly what you want (Fish only tank, LPS, softies, community tank, SPS corals, all of the above) then consider the following: 1. How much time are going to be able to spend taking care of the tank (water changes, cleaning, QTing fish, etc...) 2. How much money can you really spend? (easily over $1,000 even for a small semi-simple setup) Once you know the answer to those (and if by then you still want to get a tank) then get the biggest you can afford and fit in your house and buy as much used equipment as you can. Now the good news. Even with all the frustration, this hobby is very rewarding. Once you accomplish a decent tank, you can spend hours looking at it, marveling at the little piece of the ocean in your house. You get to meet a lot of interesting people. You have wonderful Fish Stores with very nice people around this area and it is always fun to visit them and drool at the new arrivals. And you get to learn about chemistry, fluid mechanics, motors, electricity, carpentry, etc... You started the right way by asking here in WAMAS. It took me several months of frustration and money down the drain before I was pointed into this club. Good luck! And WELCOME TO WAMAS!!!

  19. Thanks Jan.
  20. Yeah, that Reeflo 250 is a monster and for the total volume you will have it would be a great fit with plenty to spare. You can check the MSX thread on RC. A lot of people use them and they are very good skimmers for the money. I think the GSA cone looks like a great skimmer but it might not be sufficient for your system, we are talking 350g. Same goes for all the cones currently available. The MSX300 can handle up to 600gal avg load, but that is overrated IMO, its rated for 300 gal heavy bio load. So probably you will be using it at close to max capacity in your system. Plus we all end up adding a few more tanks, like a frag tank or a refugium and then you will be definitely passing its max capability. If you can go external on the skimmer and can get a good deal from James I would definitely go with the Reeflo.
  21. I think you only get one notification when one post has been added and won't get more until you visit the thread. So if there are 5 new posts I think you only get one email. Otherwise the send mail feature could overwhelm the server. But I am not certain so maybe the webmaster could chime in.
  22. LOL nevermind the bucket!!! Ha ha ha I thought you wanted a 5gl container like the salt buckets, I guess I confused RO with RC for Reef Crystals..... I need to stop free basing kalkwasser!!

  24. Doug, When is the last possible day to register? I travel often and sometimes I am only given a week notice. If I register and pay in advance can I get reimbursed if I can't make it? Looking forward to playing some golf!! B.
