This topic seems to come up every year or so. Here is one of the threads on it. http://www.wamas.org/forums/topic/14173-uv-sterilizers/page__p__118492 I ran a 125 tank for 5 years without one; have had a 215 for 4+ years with a 40 current unit. In my experience the benefits of using it far exceed any loss of it killing beneficial items in water. Yes it's just another tool and not a cure for all evils. You still need to have good husbandry skills, but in my opinion it adds another level of security to my system. Why spend hundreds or thousands of dollards on fish and coral only to provide them minimal life support equipment or no backup? I can tell you in my experience I have not had ick problem since I've gone to running UV 24/7/365. Prior to having UV, some stress on the fish would cause them to show a few signs of ick. Now the blue hippo and powder brown tang - ones that tend to show ick the most, have been spot free for 4 years. Just my $.02.

Shortly thereafter, he was breeding a large host of fresh water tropicals. In the early eighties he took a giant leap forward and assembled his very first salt water aquarium (fish only). The biological system of choice back than were under gravel filters. Moving on to more challenging waters, in the late 1980's he took another leap forward and experimented with marine invertebrates and corals. At that point in time a sump loaded with Bio-balls was the biological filter of choice. Moving forward in the late eighties a handful of aquarist and Tony were among the first in United States to successfully keep and maintain Acropora alive in captivity, long term. He started to share this experiences and knowledge with others through the many articles written on the subject. These articles were written in a column called "Feature Coral" for FAMA. One of the Acropora articles in FAMA was acknowledge in Carden Wallace text book on Acropora "Staghorn Corals of the World". Today, Tony SCUBA dives around the world taking underwater photos and observing many of these creatures in their natural environment. With his writings he has effectively communicated his experiences and observations. Tony has traveled the States and Europe giving lectures and consultations on corals and reef fish husbandry. Currently, he is working on a book call "The Coral Reef Aquarium". This book focuses on the basics of reef keeping, how to properly assemble a coral reef aquarium (five great examples), and the long term care of these critters in a captive environment. I don't see the size of your tank/system. Two (or three) smaller is better. Then set them a degree apart. If your system is small and the 500 malfunctions, it will cook your tank a lot faster than smaller one.

I'm sure some will take offense to my post. Been thinking on it all day as to whether or not to post it. But I just want it to be clear in regards to who in the area are authorized Deltec & Bubble King sellers. NOTE- Not sure it will happen, but IF you buy one from an unauthorized seller, there may be a good chance that Deltec or other company would NOT honor any warranty claim. It's like folks that buy Nikon or Cannon "grey" market cameras off Ebay and other sites, then try to get the Nikon USA warranty claim. If nothing else, I would advise you get something in writing confirming the warranty will be honored if you buy from non-authorised source. * Also make sure they are USA pumps and not ones that run on the Euro electric amp/volts. I would only use it on in-sump application. Euro-reef used to use them to connect pump to skimmer body. I found over time the rubber shrinks a bit. Thus, good chance it will eventually leak Thus, in-sump will not be problem if leaks. Trying to go cheap will only lead to problems and cost you more down road. Just my .02

We will be having "Behind the Scenes Tours", Touch Tanks for the kids, and experts on-hand to discuss the various animals on display.
