  1. I have a hippo tang that is about 4.5-5 inches long, and a juvenile blue tang that is about 3 inches long. I mentioned my issue with ich on my tank thread, I'm really worried this time. I'm considering putting them in a QT tank but would a 12 gallon eclipse bow front be too small for them? It's the only tank I have available and, being a very broke college kid around christmas ....I can't afford much else. Also what else should i have for them while they are in there? I've never had to do this before, so I'm totally lost. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated, thanks :]
  2. So I'm worried about my tangs.... they both have ich worse than they've ever had it before, and it's been going on for longer than it usually does. I'm feeding them nori soaked with garlic, Jason and I have installed the UV Sterilizer and its been running for weeks now. Not only do they have ich but usually when they do they still act normally, but this time they're both swimming weird and neither of them will eat very much. I tried taking pictures, but my phone isn't good enough to capture those little white ich spots...is there anything more that I can do? Or something I shouldn't do maybe? I don't want to lose them, my tangs are the whole reason I have such a big tank...
  3. New pics n such i was so excited for this one is this still alive? its pretty hard to tell cuz im still taking pictures with my phone but i think it still might be...i really hope it is, its one of my favorites. this looks a lot better in person... these were lost and almost dead when we found them but they're making a great recovery. watermelon mushroom from jason lol i don't know why it looks like that... first anemone its doing well and i can't wait for it to get bigger, i hope my clowns decide to host in it. i don't actually know what kind of mushroom this is but it looks really weird...which is cool... this is the best picture i could get of my new addition i didn't know what kind of tang it was when i bought it, so i was a tiny bit disappointed when i found out that he's going to turn blue in about a year, i really wanted to add a yellow fish to my tank....but oh well i love him anyway flame angel peeking at my anemone...hehe full tank shot with my crappy camera phone that's all for now, i'm sure there will be more soon
  4. Submitter: mexicanjavafish Location: my tank Camera: Sony Ericsson W810 camera phone... Subject: orange spotted blenny & a yellow star polyp
  5. maybe i should get one of those skunk cleaner shrimp...i don't have any shrimp so far and my blenny needs a friend...
  6. Yea, they're really animated....lol for lack of a better word. Mine watches me from wherever he is, I watch his eyes move and it's hilarious. He's got such personality for a fish...
  7. pictures finally i was going to wait till i got a decent camera to do this but i just couldn't wait. at the social that saturday, jason bought me an orange spot lawnmower blenny, and, since adding him to the tank, he's been searching for a perfect spot to make his 'home' so i usually find him hanging out in different holes in the rocks, or digging up the sand to make a cave. he's been favoring two spots in particular for the past few days, so when i got home today i expected to find him in one of the two. when i didn't see him there, i looked around the rest of the tank and started to panic when i couldnt find him. i was about to open the doors on my stand to look in my sump just in case when i noticed a little head poking out of an empty medium-sized shell on the sand...... he stayed for quite a photo shoot kinda blurry, but it's a cell phone, what can i say? i think i scared him out of his hiding spot...notice how large he is and how not large the shell is....lol he didn't seem tooooo mad tho a few more random tank shots and thats it till i can get a camera to do our tank justice awesome mushrooms the best tank shot i could get with my phone thats about all i could get for now, more if i can get a camera anytime soon
  8. It's cool, i try to pet my fish too... then again i don't exactly have a lionfish. :P
  9. the clown i used to have used to come up to my hand and eat from it. and i guess she would kindaaa bite me but it never hurt. it was more like playing...haha. the two new ones i just got are too afraid of me to come near my hand when i put it in the tank...they're starting to get used to me now, though, so maybe they'll eat from my hand soon too... i guess its cuz ive never had any aggressive fish but ive never had a problem with anything biting me, not even in jason's tank.
  10. So my hippo tang has ich again, which wasn't too big of a surprise. I suspected I might have been adding things too close together..like time-wise. But anyway, this time I'm kind of worried. It looks like all the little ich spots have fallen off but now whats left are faded white rings around where the spots used to be. It looks pretty bad, even though she's swimming around and eating just fine. I've started with the Ich-Attack again, and she's still eating nori, but I'm out of the garlic I used to soak it in. Hopefully it will go away like it did last time, it just looks a lot worse. Has anyone else seen these kinds of marks before? Is it ich or something else? Jason and I are also looking for a good UV sterilizer, and we are open to any suggestions.
  11. Sooo...it has been a long while since my last update. Mostly because I would like to add pictures and I have no camera to do that with.. :( so I'll give a brief update until I can get ahold of a camera: I have moved from one columbia location to another, I'm right across the street from the columbia mall. The tank move was quick and successful, and I gave my damsel's to Jae, the most recent of Jason's insane tank builds Since moving the tank in August I have added a few fish, possibly too close to eachother but everyone seems to be doing great. I now have the flame angel I wanted (thank you Jason ), my hippo tang is alive and well, two very tiny neon cleaner gobies who do their job fairly well, and just the other day two new clowns I missed my other clown a lot :( but I'm very excited about this new pair that I have, they are doing amazingly well in their new home The heat issue is finally under control, my lights are running on a steady cycle, my sump is finally in perfect working condition, we have added an ATO that runs very smoothly, and basically things could not be better at the moment I'm having an issue with this hideous hair algae however, but I have been told that my tank is re-cycling and that it will go away soon. I hope that's true, I can't wait to add more corals and such to my tank Like I said, pictures will be posted as soon as I get a decent camera to take said pictures with. And for anyone who is willing to let me borrow their camera for a few days (I won't break it I promise, and it doesn't have to be anything fancy, just a working digital) I would forever be in your debt! I use a lot of smileys.....
  12. I don't have it anymore but Jason you should put the link to that video with the lionfish you sent me yesterday. See if anyone thinks it's something we might be able to try? nvm, I apparently haven't been following this as thoroughly as i thought... it's already up here... lol.
  13. rawr. i'm frustrated. and so completely broke, membership fee is going to be a problem... rawrr.
  14. haha too bad i was out of town until late last night, cuz i totally would have done that.. anyway, i thought maybe i had read the date on my card wrong, but it really does say 9/6/08:
  15. I have been receiving e-mails that my membership is going to expire soon, and just today I noticed that I can no longer see forums like the WTB/FS/trade forum and others such as that. However, when I looked at my membership card I saw that my membership doesn't actually expire until 9/06/08......so....why can't I see anything anymore? I'd really appreciate help with this--I know I don't post much but everything on this site is so helpful and I'd really like to be able to see what my membership is supposed to allow me to see until my membership actually expires...and then of course I'll renew it. thanks.
  16. I haven't caught the damsels yet but my tang's case of ich and..whatever the eye problem was...has cleared up (again)! I just hope it doesn't come back...at least for a while this time. I tried the bottle trap yet again today and, once again, nothing happened. Rawrrrrrr! I'm frustrated! I may just have to wait until I move the tank to catch them, I hope they don't do too much damage to the tang in the meantime :( ...
  17. So I am faced with a new problem now. My damsels are seriously harassing my hippo tang! The ich it had after I first added it had disappeared, but now it's back almost as bad as it was before and I think thats because my damsels are stressing it out. Everytime it goes to eat the nori I've put in the tank, the bigger of the two damsels comes out of his hole and starts like...nipping? at the tang! It's even left a mark on the tang's right side near the tail fin. The smaller of the two damsels hasn't done this but he helps the big one chase the tang back into it's 'corner.' So I've tried to catch them but these little fish are smart! Everytime I even open the hood to my tank, even just an inch, they dart back into their hiding spots, and of course, their spots are places i can't get to without taking all my rock work apart! I've tried the soda bottle trap thing twice weeks ago, but it didn't work either time. I'm thinking that I gave up a little too easily but I'm not so sure....I picked up the trap again today because I was going to give it another try and no joke, I swear the damsels looked at me like "...are you serious...?" I'm tempted to take the clownfish and the tang and put them into a bucket while I borrow Jason's lionfish for about 10 minutes, that's all he'll need to eat both of the damsels. Haha, kidding but I really wish I could--I can't catch them! Also I think my tang may have developed something other than ich as well. There's like a white ring around it's right eye, and the eye looks kind of glossed-over. I have no idea what this is or if it's got anything to do with the ich or not, and I am clueless as to how to treat it. I would have taken pics but I didn't have my phone with me and I don't own a camera so I'll have to post pics another time, but for now, does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do about my mean damsels and my sick tang? :( help/advice/suggestions are all greatly appreciated!
  18. i actually didnt...and i'm not quite sure how it happened. i went to check on my tank and when the tang popped out from it's hiding spot the ich was gone! i have medicine for my tank, it's not kick ich but it's similar, if not the same thing with a different name, i've soaked the nori in garlic since day one before the ich, and i'm looking into getting a good uv sterilizer to prevent this from happening again! thanks everyone for the advice
  19. how in the world did you get the rock like that on the left-hand side? it looks like it's floating, that's awesome.
  20. Quick pic update! ...a better update will be coming soon, this is just for right now.. (poor hippo tang has ich :(.....any ideas on how i can treat it?)
