I found three of these things on my glass this afternoon?

What is it?

Could it be eggs from a snail?

What kind of snails do you have? It's their eggs. :bounce:

I just got 50 Nassarius, 50 Cerith and 40 red tip hermit crabs, and 2 Margarita's on Saturday. I don't think it could be the Margarita's, as I have yet to see them on the glass, just the rocks so far.

And...

If they are snail eggs, any chance they will survive in a tank of fish?

-Carl

It's the Cerith's.

Any chance they will grow up to be live / real snails?

I assume not in a reef tank.

Some people say that theirs have survived (I agree, cerith), but the babies I have seen look more like cone snails which are bad. Who knows, though, it's not unheard of for them to survive.

Dave - are you saying that they could be cone snail eggs?

I basically dumped my snails into my tank from the group order last week. For all I know there were snails in my batch that were NOT cerith or nas...??? And I don't think I would know the difference...

No, sorry to freak you out. The "baby" snails to my untrained eye look like cone snails. I don't know if they actually are, but who knows. Those, by the way, wouldn't be cone snail eggs. Cone snails are incredibly tiny and have white, pointed shells. They look almost like a pencil lead, only smaller and white. They are parasitic and typically you will find them on tridacnids along the byssal opening or just under the mantle. I have seen them on some rock that has been brought into my systems and have made every effort to get rid of them. The tiny baby snails I have seen are very similar in shape and appearance and some of them have been white, which leads me to suspect that they could be cone snails. Your egg strands, however, are definitely not from cone snails.

Do you mean cerith baby snails don't survive?

I had a ton of baby Margarita snails. A lot of them died, I am sure, from starvation. But a lot survived. A gave a bunch away and still have some in my tank.

Yeah, so wondering if you just mean cerith baby snails or others too?
