Origami May 4, 2018 Share May 4, 2018 It's locking up available nutrients that could be coming from overfeeding, nutrient dosing, your top-off or change water, from your rock (if it's phosphate laden), or from other die-off/decay in your system. You can try herbivores such as hermit crabs, emerald crabs and snails. A sea hare or tangs would probably not work in a nano. Manual removal my be part of your near term solution until your apparent nutrient situation is fixed. It may look ugly, but keep in mind that algae is working like a vacuum cleaner and is cleaning your water. It won't grow unless the nutrients (mostly phosphate and nitrate, but also iron and other stuff), carbon dioxide, and light are present. So, manual removal becomes a form of easy nutrient export.
