Algae Mat

Hilary

Recommended Posts

I have a thick mat of algae growing in one of my nanos that I need to trim. Was thinking I'd bring the extra in for the free table at the meeting tomorrow, but first hoped that I can get help identifying it. I don't think it's chaeto gone wild. It's been mostly growing across the surface where the light is best. Thoughts?

Just guessing and noting the coarse branching structure. Might be cladophora. Get mogurnda's attention and have him look at your photo. He's looking for somebody with cladophora to try to use as food for some of his sea slugs.

Thank you both!  I'll reach out to Dave to see if he wants any - I threw it in the sump.  I don't think I have enough to make crazy dog a Ch Ch Ch Chia!

Thanks Hilary!  I took a quick look under the microscope, and it sure looks like Cladophora to me.  I put a blob of it into a dish with some hatchlings, and we'll see.
