finaddict March 31, 2017 March 31, 2017 (edited) Thought I had a reef safe peppermint shrimp but he is eating my favorite favia. He is also all over a plate coral I bought at MDRC last week. The plate has not recovered yet from the move and now the shrimp is just tearing it apart. I have read about traps for them but what is the best way to get him? Does anyone have a link to a shrimp trap? Also what is the best bait? I have four fish also that I hope to leave in the tank. I have a small 36 gallon and not much area on the sand bed without rocks. This picture is before I have the plate, a new trumpet colony and other zoa colonies in the sand in the front of my tank. Any ideas? Edited March 31, 2017 by finaddict
Origami March 31, 2017 March 31, 2017 Try a water bottle trap. Cut the bottle about 1/3 down and turn the top back into the longer base. The top then becomes a funnel of sorts. Poke a few holes in the body, and put a rock or sand inside (and some bait). Set the assembly near where the shrimp hangs out and wait. Once it goes in, lift the bottle out. It's harder getting out than getting in, so you'll have a slight advantage. Good luck. Sent from my phone
mari.harutunian April 1, 2017 April 1, 2017 I had a peppermint in my 36 gallon that also turned on my corals. Luckily caught it with a net. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
sen5241b April 3, 2017 April 3, 2017 I'm done with shrimps. Although I've never seen one kill a coral they DO harass them. I saw corals stay closed for days because of shrimp-harassment. And the make it impossible for the coral to eat.
