There was a photo in the paper this morning showing one of the ancient aquatic relatives of the scorpian that was found swimming in the cave. They can prove the minimum age of an organism (as a species or type) by comparing it to the fossil record and determining when all of the critical anatomical elements were present in that type of configuration.
