rockstarta78 January 21, 2017 Share January 21, 2017 https://vimeo.com/200511539 From the video, can anyone tell what type of algae this is? It doesn't have any bubbles so I don't think it's dino. It's too stringy to be diatom. It doesn't even look like brown hair algae (???). Any idea what this might be?
AlanM January 22, 2017 Share January 22, 2017 Can you pull out some and take a pic of it on a white plate? Hard to even tell the color from that video.

sen5241b January 23, 2017 Share January 23, 2017 That purple light makes it difficult to see the algae's true color.
treesprite January 23, 2017 Share January 23, 2017 I think that is what I had a few months ago, but it did have bubbles. It was brown, stringy, and some bubbles, so I thought it was dinos. Good thing I didn't do any chemical treatments for it. It did not come back after I scrubbed all the rock with a toothbrush.
AlanM January 23, 2017 Share January 23, 2017 I think R2R had a big thread about dinos and identifying them and distinguishing between them and cyano which sometimes looks similar. If you get some in a clear glass and stir it all up so you can't see it one or the other will clump back together into stringy colonies. If you search you can find the thread, but I don't remember which it is.
gmerek2 January 24, 2017 Share January 24, 2017 I had whatever the heck it is. It went away when the rock matured. Took awhile though I didn't try to fight it
