wov nice coral let me know if you find

Yes I do,. but it is not fragable. I got mine from Don a.k.a. "Tri Bui" and almost lost it during the Flat Worm Exit debacle I had two month ago. It is currently coming back and reproducing nicely (better than before), but is not yet fragable.

Please someone correct me, but I believe it is called the Lengsi purple rim Montipora Capricornis Verucosa? Greg, Dave, Rik. Please help spell the name right.

Jacob

Inna,

You got the hole colony under your noise, that is Lengsi Cap incredible colors which you got it from me. It used to be like that picture if you see my www.webshots.com pics same coloration, due to my moving to many times within a short period and unable to take good care of it even that it keeps growing and take over 1/3 of my tank. anyway if you like to know how to make it look like that that pic colony PM me.

Don

The Leng Sy cap is dead!

This is the original photo that created all the buzz. I have seen it in several lectures and it was noted that it does not look like the picture and that there are tons of similar corals out there but none can be traced to Leng Sy. If you do have it (and can prove it) you are sitting on a gold mine!

Here is the story

Don .. Tri Bui. is it the true Lengsi Cap? Then if it is , I'm keeping GOLD in my tank :bounce:

It's 'Leng Sy' not 'Lengsi'

Here he is...... (scroll to the right, sorry about the pic size!)

thanks Rik. Got to wait for DON a.k.a Tri Bui to confirm the origin of the CAP he sold me over a year ago as Leng Sy Cap.

Jacob

I was suspecting the colony I got from Don is the same coral but it looks so much different now. Does it trace back to a Leng Sy frag from Palleta somebody in WAMAS had? I saw a pic on the gallery. Hm-m-m, did I hit a jackpot?

Leng Sy, or Leng Sy like - I love this coral and really want it to look like that one on the picture :)

It sounds so stupid, but if you can trace it back to the original, and back it up, I'm sure Tyree will buy all you can supply (then sell it for x20 the price). Sad thing is, if you do trace it back (and can prove it) you or I could not get more than $40 a frag!! Tyree owns the LE market

you can. keep it up close to the top in your reef system. feed it twice a week coral nutirents like golden pearl and keep all your essential elements and CA and Mag levels up to par, and you shall see the coral thrive close to Leng Sy coral.

ok so far, this is what we can trace.

tracing backwards

Caribbean Jake <----- Tri Bui <----- John VA-Reefman <---- ??

Ok, update. This is not 100% confirmed but here is the story. Rik, perhaps you want to do your detective work and find out more.

John a.k.a VA_Reefman is a friend of Tyree Leng Sy. I been told John VA_Reefman actually bught a piece from Leng Sy back in 1997 and kept it for few years before fragging and selling to Don a.k.a. Tri Bui. whom later in 2004 sold it to me and I almost lost during the Flat-Worm-Exit debacle in Mar 06. The piece is very slow growing but extremely beautiful.

The frag piece I have shows signs similar to those descibed in Rik's link to the Leng Sy page. The edges are almost 1/2" purple and the protuberances in the center of the cap are identical to those on the picture. Now keep in mind, this coral is coming back from an almost lost situation(it was pale white one month ago) and is still recuperating, but again it shows the signs and similarity as those in the picture. You are welcome to come and see it for yourself.

Jacob

Wow, we foung a long lost clone! Thanks for doing research and sharing the story, Jacob! :bounce:

It lives in my tank now after Don let it go.

Lost a little of color over moving, do not see purple rim and had to be glued back but now on it's way to nice recovery. I fed it today and it was very happy.

This is how it looks now under actinic

I'm pretty sure John got his frag from Bill Glascock, who got it from Sanjay who got it from Paletta who got it from Leng Sy. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that's what John told me. 2 years ago I stopped by Mike Paletta's house and purchased a frag of his "leng sy" cap. It looks nothing like the original. I grew my frag out into a colony and gave away dozens of frags. This coral is a weed and certainly can not be a LE coral by any means. Most of CMAS has this coral now and not one of them look anything close to the original pic posted on Tyree's website. Under all those different conditions you'd think someone would have one that might closely resemble the original. When I was at Paletta's house he said he got a frag from Leng Sy from the original colony, he was 100% sure it had died. He said he never fragged it for anyone because it never grew. Now, 3 years ago Leng Sy was at Paletta's house and asked Mike if the green cap with the purple rim was his. So now the story goes that Leng Sy has confirmed that Paletta's colony is the original. However since Paletta is sure it died it can't be the case. Mike said when I bought it "I'm not sure it's the original but I'll sell you a piece of it". I paid $75 for a dime size piece. Either way, all the "Leng Sy caps going around are not the real thing. Nothing matches other then green with purple rim and slight green polyps. The original had a thick purple rim, bright green polyps, green body and weird nodules all over. They're all look a likes and people are trying to make them more expensive because of an unverified name. Believe what you want but in the end the real Leng Sy cap is gone so we never will really know.

George

I would definitely have to agree with George. Those two corals look completely different. I can not see a coral being able to change that much over a few years..... Just my opinion. Plus, george is a pretty good source for info. He's like a pocket history book.

Thanks George.

Now let me ask you, what is this coral I got from Don who bought it from John that came from Bill, that came from Sanjay that came from Palleta, whom originally bought it from Leng Sy? Is it a Clone, a myth, or a marketing trick? Is it a piece that never developed? Is it a frag Leng Sy sold as original? Someone perhaps introduce it as Leng Sy somewhere in the hand-to-hand me down process?

Please understand I don't care if my piece is original or not, I just want to clarify what I been told.

Jacob

Thanks George.

I honestly believe that it is NOT the original cap. If it was, John, Mike, etc. would have contacted Tyree (who has been searching for SIX YEARS to find this coral) and it would be FS on ReefFarmers and have a 10 year waiting list.

This is just my opinion after reading the history of this coral and seeing all the frags floating around WAMAS/CMAS that look nothing like the original colony. Don't get me wrong, the one floating around the DC Metro area can develop into a beautiful coral, but it's not the Leng Sy cap.

-Rik

PS I had 8-9" colony of this cap from John. About 3 years ago but I decided to sell all my caps and I sold it.

Thanks Rik

Even doe it is not, and really don't care if it is. This piece has nice purple rims and the center polyps and nodes are growing like little fingers, so for now I will nourish it and bring it back to a very healthy state, who knows, we may some day call it.... The Caribbean J Cap
