Drilling 40B

Does anybody drill tanks in the NOVA area? Thinking of setting one up but never drilled a tank before and don't want to buy a 20 dollar drill bit I won't use again.

40bs really scare me. They are so thin. I don't think I would drill one. Drilling will probably go ok but they flex so much when full of water I would be afraid they would break. Good luck though!

They're actually pretty easy to drill as are 10's, 15's, 20's - all with the same glass. The secret is taking it slow and letting the bit do the work. Don't push down hard on the bit. Diamond hole saws grind away the glass - they don't eat or chip away at it. Keeping the area from building up heat by adding water as a lubricant helps. There are plenty of videos on youtube you can watch for how it's done.

Did you get this worked out?  I'm in MD but have multiple bits and have my own tanks plus some for other people.....happy to provide the tools and assistance if you want to come by.
