I recently installed two new reflectors in my hood. I previously did not have any. My question is should I be adjusting the lighting schedule for the increased intensity? I have currently done that, but wanted to see what opinions were out there.

Thanks,

Scott

i would just add some eggcrate or screens to be safe. Keep the same schedule but add the stuff to break up the light a little more.

Bob loves those Eggcrates!

FWIW, When I was doing the PAR Meter readings, I was surprised how fast the readings would drop the moment I moved the probe from directly under the light filament!

As little as a 3"-4" from center would lower the readings by as much as a 1/3 and more!

So when a CLEAN Reflector was added, I believe you will increase your loss reflections back to the inhabitants immensely!

So a part deflector or filter might not be such a bad idea to ease into the new lighting!

but? would the egg crate interfere with light rays?

Absolutely, I can see a difference when i take mine off to work in the tank. Makes a big difference. When i moved to t5's i just doubled up on the egg crate and had NO die off or ill effects.

Thanks guys. I haven't been able to get screens, but I have decreased the time that the light is on.

if you read up with Folta and Dhoch you will find its not the time the light is on it the amount of light that is killing the corals. Not the time it is on, the par of the light. Not sure if that will affect you in the situation but if you start to see die off get something to break up the light.

btw egg crate is really cheap.
