GOSKN5 March 20, 2016 March 20, 2016 I bought a gold torch frag today that was 1 head splitting to two... it was glued to a huge plastic frag plug, so I was going to pop it off the plug.. I don't know if the skeleton was cracked or what but it shattered in my hand... crushed it all the way up to the polyps... I put some superglue on the cracks the best I could, and put it together at the bottom with some epoxy, but its all jacked up... any chance this thing can heal and live? I am pretty ticked off haha... Thanks for the help..
Squishie89 March 20, 2016 March 20, 2016 Oh goodness, I am so sorry that happened. I got a rainbow monti and I wanted to change it's frag plug but it was encrusted and in the process of getting it off it broke in multiple places and it looked bad, but somehow survived. I know a monti and a torch are not the same, but don't give up hope!
gmerek2 March 20, 2016 March 20, 2016 Should be fine if it's like hammer. See where mine healed over Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Jon Lazar March 20, 2016 March 20, 2016 Most of the branching area of euphyllia corals like torches is not living. When you look at the coral head, you'll see tissue extending a little ways down the outside of the branch...maybe an inch or so. That's where the live part ends. You can break up the non-living part without hurting the coral. However, the branch won't grow back together either. Even if you damaged the coral head, it will probably be ok, and broken pieces of the head will likely each reform into a new polyp. It is possible that one or more of the parts will die though. Not much you can do except ensure the coral stays as happy as possible. Good luck!
