EBR February 18, 2016 Share February 18, 2016 So I'm giving some serious thought toward investing in one, and would appreciate any suggestions on what brand/model to go with. My very unscientific industry survey (um, Google) keeps pointing to the Vortex line up, with their base model here: http://www.diatomfilter.com/products/diatom_d1_filter.htm I've got a 125g tank, and would not be running it continuously, just as needed. paul b February 18, 2016 Share February 18, 2016 Wow these things got expensive. I have about 5 of them in different stages of disassembly as they are built very badly and rust. I could not run my reef without one but only use it once or twice a year for some maintenance. The smaller one pictured is great for your tank. Origami February 19, 2016 Share February 19, 2016 The smaller Vortex is fine for a tank that size. I have one (but haven't used it in a while). Also have the Magnum that cuu933k mentioned.
