Deadly Saltwater Snail

Need help identifying saltwater Snail

I was watching (the Most Extreme) show on Animal Planet (lol)

And they showed this snail which uses it antenna to get small fish close to him, and it then stings the fish to death, and fish die within 3 seconds or less

This is what I have in my tank

Please help, not sure if this is a same snail I have, but just a small version?

They both have that small antenna

Thank you

Sachin

Sachin,

My snail taxonomy skills are extremely limited, however, your snails appears to be nassarius (scavengers that eat meaty foods), while the other picture is most likely a conus (or cone) snail, some species of which can kill a man in just a matter of minutes. Very rare in the aquarium trade though it does happen from time to time.

IMO (FWIW) you are in the clear.

If you want a definitive answer you could check with Dr. Ron at http://www.marinedepot.com/forums/

Garrett.

Many snails (whelks, conchs, cones) have a siphon like that. The shells of your nassarius and cone snails are completely different. They won't kill you and eat you.

Conchs also are venomous, I believe their venom is consider dangerous. I think I have a small one in my tank. Most people get zap by these on the beach thinking the pretty shell is empty.

Sorry I was mistaken, I think it's only the Cone snails, that are venomous, but there are over 500 species, some very attractive like the conch.
