gmerek2 August 26, 2015 August 26, 2015 Please show me your tanks screen netting. Or let me know if you like the BRS stuff. 1/4" to me seems like overkill and i read it reduced someone's par by 10% which would bother me. Hopefully someone can change my mind or show me a different product. Thanks
WilRams August 26, 2015 August 26, 2015 I made this one last week. I bought everything at Home Depot minus the screen that I got from BRS. My tank is 48x24 and at that size would bow if I made the net taunt. It was also a pain to move the whole thing to feed or any maintenance. I decided to make 2 24x24 ones instead so I can just stack one on another when messing with the tank. It works. I don't think there is a "great" solution for screen tops minus the ones that come with IM tanks. I wish I would have thought to take PAR readings with it when I had the meter this weekend but I forgot so no input there. If it's true then no biggie I can just lower might light to compensate. Since I'm not truly sold on the asthetics of it I am trying to get an acrylic frame made that will sit on the inside edge of the tank. Then the screen can be held in by nylon screws threaded into the frame. My only concern is the acrylic warping.
gmerek2 August 26, 2015 Author August 26, 2015 The fishing line mesh looks a lot thinner than on BRS website which is great! You brought up a good point with the feeding. I guess when Im on vacation I could just put the fish on a strict diet of pellets so it can fall/roll though the mesh. I really don't like the Idea of having a screen on the tank but there is no worse feeling than when a wrasse or firefish jumps
thakki August 26, 2015 August 26, 2015 (edited) I made a screen with bird netting from local hardware store...it worked out great..I didn't have like tiny fish...so I was okay. That was for my old tank. I am planning to do the same for my new tank as well. Edited August 26, 2015 by thakki
s2nhle August 28, 2015 August 28, 2015 I am planning to use the BRS net and Home Depot for the frame.
WheresTheReef August 29, 2015 August 29, 2015 (edited) What did you guys use to build the screen's frame? Window screen frame, corner pieces, and spline to hold the mesh material Edited August 29, 2015 by WheresTheReef
n8n September 5, 2015 September 5, 2015 http://wamas.org/forums/topic/74317-nathans-210g-reef-tank-build/ I recently built two for my 210g tank. I have one on my 93g cube. Home Depot frame and spline ( same as brs). Used brs mesh. Didn't see same stuff at Home Depot. Lay screen on top of frame and use some paint cans or Dumbbells to hold it tight when you spline it and it'll be super tight. Otherwise you almost need two people. Nathan

Used same materials as mentioned by other members on this thread except for the screen...I used the bird net from my last build. I have a lot left if anyone is interested.
