What height do you have your T5's over the water surface?

I was curious what height people keep their T5 lights over the water surface. How are yours set up?

I know this will depend on:

-How many bulbs? (1-8)

-What are you keeping?  SPS, LPS, Mixed?

-Depth of the tank? 10"- 36"+

-Any other lights?  LED, MH, VHO?

I have seen everything from 4" to 36".......

When I ran T5's (a few years back), they were set in a canopy about 10" off the surface of a 180 gallon tank. With the deep sand bed in place, the distance from the water surface to the sand was about 19 inches. I ran seven 80 Watt (60") T5HO's plus one 140W Super Actinic T12 VHO in the arrangement. The arrangement had decent-quality reflectors, but I can't remember now what brand they were. I was keeping SPS mostly, but a few LPS were in the tank, too. No other lights, except for a few LED moonlights which added virtually no PAR.

The answer is PAR reading is what will determine distance from the surface of the water.
