this came out of nowhere on one of my rock. been growing it for the last few months.

Looks like some sort of chalice kinda

 

Thanks, but i dont think it's a chalice since i dont see any eyes/mouth

is it hard like an LPS or soft n slimy like a shoom?

 

its hard, but no flesh like LPS, its more like monti

No problem.  One of my favorite corals that doesn't show up too often.  Treat it like your average LPS, love meaty foods and sinking pellets when the feeders are out.  If it's H. clavator, it will stay attached to the rock, any other species of Halomitra, and it will eventually fall onto the sand bed like a plate coral.  If you ever decide to get rid of it, I'd love first shot - I lost a nice one many years ago and haven't found another:

They are just smaller on the one you have. If you look at the picture you posted you can seem them along the outer rim on the bottom on the left.
