thakki February 17, 2015 February 17, 2015 While cleaning the tank today few flakes of salt (from the evaporated salt water) fell on my mystic and green monti...the place where the salt flaked fell became dark in color and I saw some slimy stuff came out if it...those places don't seem happy...did I hurt my coral? Will it recover?
AlanM February 17, 2015 February 17, 2015 Yeah, will recover unless its on the way out already. I get spots on mine when I drop irritants on and they go away, even small white areas that you might think are dead spots. Larger dead areas will re-encrust if the rest stays alive. I also feel that giving the monticaps a blow with the baster from time to time makes them grow better. They tend to be detritus catching little plates.
thakki February 17, 2015 Author February 17, 2015 I hope they recover...doesnt look good this morning...the impacted places now turned white...dead areas...I was very happy with the progress these two montipora's were making...started with an inch of frags...now close to 6x6 colonies...doesnt feel good about this.
DuffyGeos February 17, 2015 February 17, 2015 I use a turkey baster everyday on my corals. I do it 30+/- min before I feed the fish which then gets most of the corals to open up and PE. Then I do it about 30 +/- after to make sure no food is laying around. Fish and corals seem to like it. Just not too hard on the corals, or too close.
