mogurnda September 24, 2014 September 24, 2014 (edited) The Box of Slugs is set up for plants and herbivorous slugs. No feeding, no fish, not much current. As a result, the isopods and copepods are going crazy. For some reason (probably a power outage) all the amphipods died a few weeks ago, but are slowly recovering. Isopods Copepods (having trouble embedding, so here's the link) http://youtu.be/gbtsZNEmKwY I expect we would all have copepods buzzing around if our fish didn't like them so much. YHSublime September 24, 2014 September 24, 2014 One of our members, Jason Rhodes, has a 55 gallon fuge that he slowly, and I mean slowly, runs water through and then back into his system. Pretty sure it's a remote DSB as well, and it's crawling with all sorts of this stuff of the like. Last I saw, his system was looking phenomenal, and he contributes a lot of his success to it. That an exceptional husbandry I'm sure as well! I wish I had the room to play around with stuff like that, but I need to keep everything neat and tidy in our living room... one day. Thanks for the share!
gmerek2 September 24, 2014 September 24, 2014 My frag tank doesn't have any fish. It's loaded also with pods. The mysis shrimp outnumber them though. Pretty neat stuff. I don't even know what they are feeding on since I don't feed that section of tank. I'm sure poop and some food go in the over flow and down there but it's just amazing the population that can thrive

mogurnda September 24, 2014 Author September 24, 2014 Can't plumb to the coat closet. Sounds like your next challenge.
YHSublime September 25, 2014 September 25, 2014 Sounds like your next challenge. That's not a challenge. The challenge will be explaining it to my wife, who is already upset about me trying to figure out how I'm going to plumb my RO/DI in our new condo, that I'm going to also plumb a fuge in my coat closet. Which there in itself would present the bigger problem of explaining to her what a "fuge" was, and why I absolutely had to have one. My eyes are blue, but as far as she can tell, they're brown, if you know what I mean.

Thanks for the share! Thanks for the props! Yep, the slow-flow fuge is amazing for growing pods and mysis. I recently added LEDs over it, and the algae growth is starting to take off (a good thing in this case), which i think will support even more life in the refugium. You are also correct in that it is a remote DSB as well. Something is working, because i have more polyp extension with the fuge online than before, and that is the only change (well, I did change my haircut, but the fish don't seem to notice so I doubt the corals do). dave w September 25, 2014 September 25, 2014 My wife is the same way. She rolled her eyes at the idea of putting a big tank in the basement, but when I suggested putting the tank outside in a greenhouse she was all for it. Little did she know what that would eventually grow into.
gmerek2 September 25, 2014 September 25, 2014 Oh cool fuge! I didn't get to see the video earlier! If you find a way to harvest the mysis for feeding let me know. The lack of fish is why they populate for sure. I have a 30g nem tank also with only one large slow maroon. He eats the ones in the open. The only place I can find the mysis in there under every rock, shell and they even figured out that they were safe in the nem basket. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
